  So the whole video vaguely talks about change but not a lot of change was described specifically except for maybe start-up’s.

  As a Japanese person in my 20s, what I find interesting is how differently identity is formed in Western societies compared to Japan.<br>In the West, the individual tends to come first. Expressing one’s opinion clearly and even engaging in open conflict is often seen as part of one’s personality and something to be respected. In contrast, in Japan the community and the shared atmosphere tend to come first, and identity is often shaped by how one is perceived by others.<br><br>Because of this, in Japan, direct and confrontational debate is often avoided, as it can be seen as disrupting harmony. Instead, unspoken understanding and “reading the room” are emphasized. This can be a real strength in industries that rely on close coordination and on-the-ground teamwork. At the same time, it can become a weakness in a global environment where competition, contracts, and clearly defined responsibilities are the norm.<br><br>Personally, I don’t think Japan simply lacks individualism. Rather, the coordinates used to define the individual are different from those in the West, yet we often import Western-style systems without changing how they are actually operated.<br>With the recent shift toward job-based employment, I worry that if Japanese-style management remains unchanged, responsibility will be pushed onto individuals while evaluation criteria stay vague, resulting not in more “freedom” but simply in people becoming easier to let go.

  I have lived in Japan for over ten years and my entire career has been in Japan. I don’t think start ups or flexible work will become the new norm. <br>The person from Panasonic was trying to hint that much “the culture won’t change”. <br>I just think we are seeing more start ups opening due to their being additional funding and initiatives from the government. And I think the major change is the culture change of roles being from company based to job description based. (And that was to add more resilience to the company if roles disappeared)

  Japan&apos;s labor market is unique in the world. There is strong demand for new graduates. Japanese companies tend to prioritize employees who have been with the company for a long time, while there is little demand for middle-aged and older employees. New graduates are in high demand, while middle-aged and older employees are left unemployed and in a surplus.

  A big company used to shift a new department as a change, but the culture remains so it can not move as expected.<br>A basic move at start-ups strive to survival so every step is a new culture.

  As someone that&apos;s lived in Japan for 10+ years now, I prefer the current way that companies operate here. Join a company and then try many things before specialising

  All the interviews are in English, of course, however you’d get very different responses if you interviewed in Japanese
