  Poor woman. She sounds like she was descending into paranoid delusions. He parents probably said she had chronic pain to preserve her privacy. If I was coming undone, I wouldn&apos;t want the world to remember me for my last delusional spiral.

  Getting a little bit personal here. I come from a family that has been pretty high up in aerospace engineering for a long time. My great grandfather was an early Skunk Works hire, and my grandfather was a Lockheed missiles engineer. His wife, my grandmother, developed schizophrenia following the birth of their children. Her delusions specifically involved the government, and it&apos;s been a longstanding belief of my family that the actual government surveillance we were under as a result of the jobs we&apos;ve held in some way encouraged her delusions. She was able to function fairly well as an adult in society, even while she lived unmedicated. She made a living as an artist, and was able to own her own home in California. She ultimately died as the result of her illness convincing her that medical intervention for her cancer was a government plot. Psychosis is a very difficult issue to treat, especially when there are people actively feeding the delusions. Part of our additional struggle was that, due to the fact that many in the family worked for the government or military, any attempts to help her were dismissed as us being part of the group against her.

  This is one of the only YouTube channels where I watch EVERY video without question! Been a viewer for over a year and a half now. You guys consistently make some of the highest quality content on YouTube and always fuel my interest in learning about missing persons cases and unsolved deaths. With compassion and respect as well.   I have a master&apos;s degree in psychological sciences but of more relevance I work as a counselor in a residential facility, with about 90% of the people I work with being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Quick tip for the future to sound more in-the-know on this topic: paranoid schizophrenia is an old diagnosis from the DSM-IV days, and nowadays there are no subtypes of the diagnosis, just schizophrenia (and also schizoaffective disorder too but I don&apos;t have time to get into the academic discourse about the discriminant validity of that diagnosis lol). <br>The thing that I always tell people about delusions is that they&apos;re on a spectrum. When you were talking about Amy saying all this stuff without a hint of doubt, that&apos;s the exact type of thing that I find to be (at a glance) a really strong indicator of a psychotic disorder. People who are just conspiratorial tend to have some doubt or reservations about what they&apos;re saying that you can pick up on, but when you&apos;re speaking to someone with full blown delusions you can tell because they say it with their whole chest like it&apos;s totally normal. Anecdotally, the things you relay her saying are very consistent with my own experience of the types of things that people will say when going through psychosis. The whole &quot;people going into my house/room and moving my stuff around but not stealing anything&quot; is really common in my experience. Obviously I cannot diagnose anyone that I don&apos;t have the opportunity to work with professionally, but from my clinical point of view everything being described with this case is very consistent with someone going through psychosis. Worth noting that alcohol consumption tends to make the symptoms worse as well. <br>Also, it&apos;s noteworthy that a lot of things started happening to her after COVID. Schizophrenia&apos;s onset usually occurs as a factor of a stressful life event. Basically the idea is that people will have this genetic predisposition to the development of schizophrenia, but this onset will not occur (or may never occur) until something sufficiently stressful occurs to trigger the onset (if you want to sound smart, this is referred to as the stress-diathesis model of schizophrenia). Basically COVID was a sufficiently stressful event for a lot of people, and Amy was also within a fairly typical age of onset for this to happen, though perhaps a little bit later than most (most who develop schizophrenia have their onset from late teens into early adulthood). <br>I&apos;m guilty of holding a hammer and seeing lots of nails, but as someone who has watched a lot of your videos it&apos;s something I&apos;m always thinking about when people go missing, especially when it&apos;s a college student. People don&apos;t always notice when people are edging into their first psychotic episode, especially because many people try to hide the fact that they&apos;re starting to hear and/or see things. <br>People with schizophrenia are genuinely my favorite people to work with and I say that because they tend to get a bad rap. It&apos;s a very misunderstood disorder. I&apos;ve had the pleasure to work with some very very bright people with schizophrenia and I think Amy was like this as well. It&apos;s not a death sentence and there are many people who are able to live very independent and successful lives while living with it. I&apos;m sad that she didn&apos;t get a longer amount of time to have the opportunity to do so. <br><br>also, been watching for I think what, like 4 years now? Really appreciate the perspective you all take on when examining this sorta stuff. I have a lot of respect for the &quot;let&apos;s keep an open mind but do our research&quot; angle when it&apos;s done well and you all do it well. Good work and keep that up :]
