I'm aged 73 and an extreme techie (yes, there are a few of us). Tremendously great job laying out and explaining the options. I traveled to France last year and bought a local sim for 30 days and it was the perfect option. Going to Italy this Fall and will do it again. Once you have your SIM installed in your phone, you can make your phone a "hotspot" for internet access for your laptop. Works great so you don't need to rely on hotel or local WIFI spots that are hard to find and publicly open.

Awesome video! I would like to add that if you are a user of a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, you can purchase the SIM card and insert it into your hotspot. Then you can put your phone on airplane mode and enable Wi-Fi calling. By doing this you will be using the data from your SIM card package. I have done this all over the world, and it works wonders. Anyone in your travel party was access to your hotspot can use it, gust eliminating the need for multiple SIM cards as long as you're typically together.

You guys are great! T-Mobile is still covering Italy, with .25 a minute phone calls. We are leaving for Italy in April. I will check with them again to make sure no changes have been made.

Thank you for this. The battery pack was a lifesaver. Unfortunately, we left it behind, but that was on our last day. It really helped.

I am currently traveling in Italy. I recommend getting an e-sim. You purchase it online before you leave, then turn it on once you reach your destination, so you'll have data - and thus the ability to use apps like Google Maps - and will be able to find your hotel from the start without having to find a vendor for a physical sim card first. Plus, you won't have to remove your home sim card.

It's way cheaper than what we pay in the US. Just make sure you purchase a plan for the country you'll be traveling in.

Which e-sim, that you dowlaod prior to travel and connects automatically when you land? Airlo was terrible and confusing, didn’t work well, and Nomad e sim was annoying when we went from Portugal to Spain, didn’t work. What e-sim is easy, and starts working without going into setting when you land on your trip?
