This is exactly the type of content the world needs right now, if you ask me. Thank you.

I think I do hear a Robin giving off somewhere nearby.
Anyone else think the lighting in this video is just devastatingly excellent. Warm colours and natural textures working so well together. Brilliant watch.

It's OK that your video went a little long. I enjoyed every bit of it. Incredible job on that dagger.

Re: smell of stone. Many years ago, I stood in an open pit in Tanzania with a geologist a day or so after a blast (Tanzanite and graphite), and he was quite convinced that he could smell an oily petroleum smell from the rock (I couldn't). He later posited that the graphite - a carbon mineral - in the kyanite bed was responsible. But then, he liked licking rocks.

You mention the smell of flint which reminded me of a black flint core that I have that I worked for blade / flake removals which smells so distinctly of oil ! Thank you !

I was interested to hear you say "you get into a zone..." That fits with my observation that the expert knappers I've watched have a great deal of their knowledge in their arms, hands, and fingers - the body knows how this works. True I think for many skills.

Of all the things that has intrigued me to travel to the British Isles... History at every turn; ...yet it is the sheer idea of tasting a bit of PRE-History, and whacking a hunk of flint which may draw me over to your side of the pond!

When you talked about not thinning it too much in the middle, I thought about what I heard once. The knapper said not to create a dumbbell. A simple but important thought.

Years ago we were shown the basics of flint knapping in the reproduction round houses on Shapwick Moor, Somerset I was surprised at how easy it was to begin the process but to create a refined tool like an arrow head is another matter.
The round houses were surprisingly cosy!
