HMCS Regina was built to find it.<br><br>I went aboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigate HMCS Regina during RIMPAC, the world’s largest international maritime exercise, to learn how this ship hunts submarines, defends itself from missiles, launches helicopters in rough seas, and survives when something goes catastrophically wrong.<br><br>We’ll examine the CH-148 Cyclone helicopter, CANTASS towed-array sonar, SMART-S radar, Harpoon and Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles, the 57mm Bofors gun, MASS decoy launchers, torpedo systems, damage control—and Canada’s wonderfully named Beartrap helicopter-handling system.<br><br>But Regina isn’t merely a collection of weapons.   Hello Ryan, i work at Davie shipyard and spent the last 5 years working on extending the lifespan of the halifax-class. I know them by heart. We just released the Toronto out of drydock and brought the Montreal in yesterday. It feel great to see someone knowledgeable as you speak of them You actually teach me some stuff i don&apos;t know about their operational capacity. Also thank you for your interest in the military of my country!

  I served in the RCN for 35 years and was both the Chief Boatswain Mate and Coxswain of HMCS Regina, of course at different times. I did a 9 month and 7 month deployment to Middle East on her. I must commend you on the great presentation of Regina and the sailors who serve on her. It’s a great ship and was a big part of my service.

  Regina was my ship when I served in the early 2000&apos;s as a sonar operator. These frigates and crews are very good at what they do, and it&apos;s nice to see how her systems have evolved since I got out.
