The way to tell a good band from a great one?? Look at the faces of the musicians. A look of sheer joy as if to say
" I can't believe I'm playing with Chick Corea" AND getting paid for it....

I'm ashamed to confess I didn't know who was Chick Corea until a few days ago when I was listening/watching videos in youtube. And then I just found out that he recently passed away :( Rest in Peace Maestro, thank you so much for your music and the videos you left behind sharing your knowledge with all of us aficionados.

Only Chick Corea could accompany a conga solo like that. Just brilliant!

Wasn't this just one of the best, if not THE best, concert performances by ANY band ANYWHERE? EVER? We love you Chick, thankyou for the music, the beauty, the joy and the happiness you gave to us all.

Chick lives on for a long time. This video testifies to it: The dialogues with all participating jazz musicians are unique. This is jazz in its purest form and great art.

This is what happens when talent and a lifetime of musical study enables a band to rise beyond technique to something transcendental. Pure joy

I saw Chick a few times over the years. Most recently a few years before he passed he performed solo at the Wilbur in Boston. His playing was other worldly. I never knew a piano could sound like that. I was totally transported to another level of consciousness. Chick and my dad grew up together in Chelsea, Mass and I got to meet him a couple times after the shows.
