Q's crankiness was director Guy Hamilton's idea making GOLDFINGER. Desmond Llewellen played the role straight in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE as did another actor in DR. NO, but Hamilton told Llewellen, "No. You work very hard on this equipment and this guy keeps destroying it in the field."

The actor that plays the Russian baddie had a great villain run at this time. Between 83 and 85 he was the villain against James Bond, Axel Foley, and Rambo!

younger folks have to remember, these films came out every 2-3 years, where huge summer events to see on a big screen. Watching every 2-3 weeks on a tv, 40+ years later, just a whole different world. Roger does look so old here, but didn't seem that old til the last film he made....

One of my favourite Roger Moore entires tbh. Despite featuring some of the silliest moments from the entire Bond series (Tarzan swing, gorilla disguise), this still manages to be somewhat serious and pretty tense, especially during the second half.
