This could not have come at a BETTER TIME. I have an event this Saturday and am desperate to find 'the one suit to rule them all' (even though there's no such thing). Only one suit? That's a truly horrifying thought. But, if I had to have just one, it would be a dark blue/navy single breasted. That's going to be your most versatile choice in any situation.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, as a retiree, I do need a suit occasionally for weddings and funerals. I chose a charcoal gray, fully canvased in tropical wool since I live in the south. My accessories are the center of attention; easily changed for the occasion. The challenge is maintaining one's weight to maintain the fit.

Dark-ish navy or grey, notch lapel, 2 button, side vents, flat front, plain bottom.<br>Dark-ish buttons, no bells/whistles (I.e. pick stitching or ticket pockets).<br>Also you can get flap/jetted convertible pockets, aim for that if you can.<br>You can wear them to basically anything and your accessories will determine how formal/casual your outfit is.<br><br>Personally I’d favor navy over grey.<br><br>If you go with, say, French blue, which looks fantastic, you can’t really wear that to a funeral, for example.<br>But black would be far too formal for most weddings, parties, and interviews.

As a young man who wishes to pursue the Catholic priesthood (of which I should own a modest number of versatile suits) as well as someone who needs a dark versatile suit in my wardrobe, this video is a Godsend and welcome video for someone like me! A very well presented and researched video as usual!

My impression of minimal suit collection is from the video from Imperial War Museum, 'The 1940s House: The Master Bedroom'. Two work suits, one Sunday best (or for weddings and funerals), and a sports jacket and flannels for weekends.
