Seth is a great example of a forever student. He's curious and eager to learn new techniques and experience new styles without ego, and it's a joy to watch him.

    " - Don't hit people's heads hard with a sword" - Skal

" - Of course, why would you? Use a halberd!" - HMB dudes I guess

I tend to consider the fact that HEMA uses weapons that are obsolete as a good thing. We're honest about that. We practice sword fighting because it's fun, not because we're "actual tough guys". In reality, everyone does martial arts because they're fun, but in the realm of the "legit" ones, it's easier to become delusional.

Man, a Skall/Sensei Seth collab would bring two of the most level headed open minded YouTubers together.

Honestly, the... experimental archeology, for lack of a better term... part of HEMA makes it more interesting to me.

I do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and I'm a blue belt. As for someone who's a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu blue belt, I love HEMA and think it's super cool. I'm also a history lover, so watching guys dueling in historical armor is awesome.

One thing I can say about fighting is it's exhausting. Fighting with a thick Jiu-jitsu gi on is tiring enough, but fighting with full on armor on, I can't even imagine how tiring that must be. HEMA is awesome!

I've been doing martial arts & combat sports most of my life. I'm not all that great at them, but I do regularly participate. I think HEMA is in most ways like every other martial art I've practiced. Instructor quality varies widely. Some schools are hyper focused on competition, others on historical exploration, still others are basically LARPing. Practitioners range from the humble dude who you'd never know could actually kill you to the delusional weirdos that think watching Naruto has turned them into fighting gods. Finding a group that gels with your interests & goals is a wonderful feeling whatever style you're into. I love martial arts, I love HEMA, & I hope to keep doing both for a long time.

17:30 Seth’s first sumo video has a great example of a coach building confidence so much so that he obviously got Seth hooked on Sumo.

I'm the guy that says "swords are cool" in the video, I've started training as an assistant instructor at our school, DEMAS. I'd bet Steaphen would love to chat with Skall or have him visit DEMAS sometime

"Legit" martial artist here. Fencers have the best footwork in the world. No contest, it's absolutely mind blowing and they don't get enough credit for their ability to control distance. It is absolutely worthy of study.
