  I really hate the trope of giving a small/weak character a bow. “Oh, you can’t fight hand to hand? Here, take a 100 lb draw weight war bow and shoot it 50 times instead.”

  In Lord of the Rings (the book), Legolas shoots all his arrows at Helm&apos;s Deep and is stuck using a knife for the rest of the battle. &nbsp;Prof Tolkien knew what was up.

  I&apos;m disappointed that the scene from Lord of the Rings you reference, in the Two Towers, includes Legolas explaining where weak points are on the Uruks only to immediately after that also show numerous arrows go cleanly through cuirasses and helmets.

  Bows creaking when they are drawn back. &nbsp; If a bow creaks, it means that it is about to break! &nbsp; It&apos;s a foley sound trope, like a gun clicking when it is drawn regardless of whether or not its actually a revolver or the hammer has actually been cocked. &nbsp; Or a microphone always giving a split second of feedback whenever a character picks it up. &nbsp; Once you have been told the reality, you cannot unsee/unhear it.

  Can’t recall one movie or tv show that doesn’t have bows always strung. Usually the bow when not in use is held on the characters back by the damn bowstring. Just once I’d like to see the hero stop to quickly string his bow before combat.

  Nothing irritates me more than somebody shouting &quot;fire&quot; to bowmen. &nbsp;In those days it would have resulted in people looking for buckets of water.

  an anecdote: as a game programmer, when I programmed realistic ballistic arrows (using Newton gravity) people said it looked fake. I had to make arrows that accelerate up, stay at a slower speed for a while when at the top, then accelerate again going down, and then everybody was like: that looks real!

  In the books LOTR it&apos;s said that legolas picks up enemy arrows so he can keep shooting.
