Why Firing a Panzerfaust at a Sherman Tank Became a Death Sentence for German Soldiers

Shermans, with wet stowage, was just about the best tank in WW II for crew survivability. This guy saw a lot of action. Even got a new tank named after him

Six Tanks of Creighton W. Abrams Jr
Abrams wore out or replaced six tanks, but impressively, he never had one shot out from under him:
Thunderbolts I - IV: Early-model Sherman tanks he commanded while moving across France.
Thunderbolt V: A Baldwin-built M4 (75mm) Sherman.
Thunderbolt VI: A Chrysler-built M4A3(76)W Sherman. Abrams personally operated this tank to show confidence in the upgunned 76mm variant, and he used it to destroy roughly 50 German armored vehicles.
Thunderbolt VII: A Chrysler-built M4A3(76)W HVSS. The disturbing part wasn’t that the Panzerfaust could destroy a Sherman. It was that some German soldiers reportedly learned too late the Sherman wasn’t the real threat. The tank saw them. The crew reacted. The system answered. Do you think WW2 was decided less by weapons… and more by which side turned information into speed?

The book Spearhead about my division was quite good, although it preceded my German service.

This really shows how dangerous a weapon becomes when the whole system reacts faster .

“They thought one Panzerfaust made a soldier equal to a Sherman. What they didn’t realize… they weren’t fighting a tank, they were fighting an entire system.” That idea hit harder than the kill stats. Makes me wonder if WW2 was decided less by weapons and more by who built faster networks around them. Do you think systems beat bravery?

48:26 “He was denied at the very end for sharing the credit with the men who earned it beside him.” That line stayed with me longer than the tank totals. Real leadership seems to be about the crew, not the spotlight. Do you think the best leaders are often the least celebrated?

The disturbing part wasn’t that the Panzerfaust could destroy a Sherman. It was that German soldiers sometimes died even when they succeeded. The shot hit the tank… but the flash, smoke, and seconds afterward belonged to the American system. Do you think survivability mattered more than killing power by 1945?

19:02 so, just like the very first German soldier interview; the firer of the Panzerfaust made it three steps before dying.

Nobody got the bright idea to use the damn rockets with telephone cable??? emplace the launcher on tripods or other jerry-rigged solid mounts and a battery?
Also, an improvised "laser" could be made with a bright bulb from a car headlight affixed to the center of a round tin can (also good as a heatsink) with a lid pierced by a small hole about a dime or smaller, to allow just a thin beam of light to pass, and a longer tube lined inside with black cloth preferably velvet of a dark shade, with another obturating lid with a hole just the same size as the first ....... NEVER to be used steady-on, just quick pulses, and it's perfectly visible at night, to use the beam of light to align the static ordnance ..... It's light, Very Light.! It's what I used as a kid, to play at night, back when Lasers were Ruby rods pumped optically with Gas Discharge Flash units, barely visible and extremely wasteful of energy ... But they worked! ......
