During the Council of Elrond, it is Bilbo, not Frodo, who volunteers to take the ring to Mordor. Boromir at first begins to laugh, but then shuts up when he sees everyone taking Bilbo seriously, knowing his history.

Saruman's "smoke" looked west, toward the Grey Havens, perhaps even to Valinor, but the wind rejected him.

the worst misconception IMHO is the total character assassination they do of Sam and Frodo when the film portrays them getting angry at each other because of a Gollum trick. The whole point of the Hobbits is that they stick together and are down to earth. That's why they're such big heroes

Denethor’s story was unfortunate to not been given more attention. He sacrificed so others could endure and his sons’ strength was pivotal in the success over Sauron.
I have no doubt that Boromir, having gifts of foresight and Denethor being connected to the Palantire, gave Sauron a path to corrupt him in trying to take the ring. He dropped 30+ Uruks on his own… he could’ve crushed Frodo in a second and his honor held his hand back allowing Frodo enough time to put on the Ring and escape. That Family is thought of as week and yet they were mear mortals battling Demi Gods and monsters powered by pure evil and still were victorious

A correction, Saruman's Uruk Hai are unique to Isengard as unlike the black Uruks of Mordor, they are completely unaffected by sunlight while Mordor Uruks still have weakness to it.

I always saw the birthing pits as the place where they changed / corrupted existing creatures through new more hellish magic that Suramon had created due to what he was and his particular fall from good to evil. Like the " oh God what new hell is?" this type thing.

Shocking how much they changed in the movies

I never took the Red Eye atop Barad-Dur to be Sauron himself but instead a Device of his sorcery.

I always took the Uruk Hai to be regular orcs that Saruman improved with his magic, not that he was creating NEW beings. I thought this because the Uruk Hai were "born" knowing how to speak and how to fight, they had to learn those skills before the mud scene.

My biggest annoyance with the movies is how weak Men are portrayed as, especially the Gondorians.
I get that they try to convey dread by seeing soldiers getting cut down in great numbers, but I feel that would have been better achieved by portraying the Gondorians as the competent soldiers they are, who despite their discipline and strength just get dragged down by either numerous orcs or equally skilled Men (the Men of Harad and Rhun and the Black Numenorians) under Saurons banner.
