Joe Mazzulla is the real deal, very smart basketball mind, and so good at finding ways to motivate his players. Nobody thought they would be contenders this year, and they have as good of a chance as anybody of coming out of the East.

Derrick White on defense is a work of art. If you're watching the Celtics, keep an eye on him during defensive possessions and you'll see something special. So disciplined, incredible IQ, perfect timing.

Neemias and DWhite anchoring the best rim defense in the league. Celtics are basically betting that they can shoot better than the other team every single night.

i feel like JT's recovery effects their matchup so much against the knicks as he can be great defender as he gets better physically

Fantastic analysis, great attention to detail! I love those peel switches, makes it so hard for the ball handler to know where to pass to in a split second. I think the Celtics are indeed the favorites to come out of the East. They have the best record in the East since New Year (tied with Detroit, but slightly better net rating) and with Tatum back their floor and ceiling both went up. Plus, the fact that they don't foul a lot, are one of the best rebounding teams in the league (on both sides) and prevent rim attempts, they give themselves a great chance in games where the shots aren't falling.

On the other hand, there's quite some dark horses in the East that could make the road tough for them. Orlando is finally healthy and could be a tough opponent in the first round. New York showed last year what they can do and Detroit would put up an absolute dog fight. If anything, I'm really looking forward to these playoffs!

Talking about the issue against the Knicks with Brunson and KAT reminds me of the 2024 Western conference Playoffs that was a rock, paper, scissors contest. Denver defeated LA because of their Murray-Jokic 2 Man game. That one got out beat by the Wolves that shut down the perimeter for Murray with lengthy athletic wing defenders. And then they got countered by Dallas because Luka was too big as a PG and ate those.

It's getting further fascinating how teams develop schemes to maximize their personnel on the court. There will be teams that's schemes perform better or worse over the course of a full season yet a bad match up in the playoffs can end in a run.

Id love to see you breakdown old teams offensive and defensive schemes. It would be cool to see how NBA teams have evolved over time.
