It's amazing the lengths to which Ofcom go to locate 'unlicensed' radio interference! 🤦‍♂😏

I was involved with putting a few of these sites up, back in the day. We were sub-contracted to Ofcom. Didn't recognise the site at first but recognised myself in a photo about 3 minutes in to your video! Probably about 20 years ago. Put the one up at Birdlip, one near Hull, Shadwell near Leeds and a reservoir near Epping if my memory serves correctly.

My "beef" with OFCOM is that they've always been spineless.

I shall sleep poorly tonight due to antenna envy. Thanks Lewis.

It was interesting to hear that Ofcomm has the same challenges the FCC here in the USA has in monitoring radio spectrum.

I sit watching and listening and most is over my head. But then, showing my true intelligence at 10:38 I sit up and shout "RABBIT!"
But I still enjoy these videos. And I think I'm slowly learning bits n' bobs.

I haven't even watched it yet but I already know I'm going to enjoy it - thanks!

Baldock sometimes uses HAM beacons to calibrate their DF stuff. I know someone working there.

1:15 I'm rather surprised there was only one monitoring station in Northern Ireland given the security and intelligence value of locating transmitters there. Triangulation would presumably require the cooperation of stations on the mainland, which given their distance over the Irish Sea would seem to greatly reduce their accuracy.

20 years ago i did work on a monitoring station in Chesapeake VA. There were so many antennas there. Matter of fact back in the 80s there was a Boy scouts Camp jamboree there and those sailors had to give 2000 unruly children hopped up on s'mores and got chocolate an hour long "don't touch anything " talk. There was an antenna that was 2 maybe 3 feet of the ground but it was 2. kilometer long 6 inch pipes made of aluminum running across the camp ground. It was apparently a radar for the Gulf of Mexico that bounced off the ionosphere. Lot of fun as a kid being there. Im sure everything was basically turned off but they were so adamant that touching any of them would electrocute us.
