  Zealandia is the single greatest tourist experience in New Zealand. If you came to NZ and didn&apos;t go to Zealandia, then you have to come back! The only mammals in Zealandia are humans and mice. The mice are not a problem.<br>Make sure you return at night time with your ticket, for the night time tour. It&apos;s free for ticket holders.<br>When I took a look at the machinery at the damn adjacent the car park, I saw some Tuis in a tree. And I started counting. There were 31 of them, in one tree.<br>At night I saw so many Kiwis, it almost felt normal by the time the tour ended. During the day you&apos;ll get to be 1-metre away from active Tuatara along the walking track - something almost never ever seen.<br>The number of Kaka feeding constantly is amazing, and only they are heavy enough to open the feeding machines.<br>This truly is a magical place, and you will never regret going. I guarantee it.<br><br>There is another bird sanctuary north of Zealandia, and at our BnB we were delighted to be under the flight path of birds moving between the two locations. We saw a flight of 10 Kaka! I did not think I would ever see that in my lifetime!

  The reason mice are in Zealandia, is because hawks catch mice, and sometimes drop them into the park. But mice do not eat eggs, or attack chicks.

  For someone thinking about visiting New Zealand and staying in its capital Wellington, I would recommend visiting this place. It&apos;s on the main bus route from the CBD into Karori; you can just get off the bus at the Karori tunnel and walk a few hundred metres to it. You will see a large variety of native parrots and very likely get to see some Tuatara, which are reptilian descendants from the dinosaur era that still bear a remarkable resemblance to pictures of dinosaurs you will have seen in books. On night tours you may be fortunate to see some Kiwi foraging for grubs. The place is huge inside, and the main track goes on for kilometres.

  There is a similar fence around &apos;Sanctuary Mountain&apos; also in New Zealand, with similar impacts.
