The TRUTH About .22 LR Rifles – 7 Things Most Owners Get Wrong

Your .22 LR isn't broken, and your ammo probably isn't a scam. Most of what owners blame when a group opens up or a round goes click comes down to seven things nobody explains at the counter. We ran the claims going around about rimfire rifles against real chronograph numbers, current 2026 prices, and published match rules. Barrel length costs you about 5 feet per second per inch, not a whole rifle's worth of accuracy. Cost per hit matters more than cost per round, with bulk ammo near 9 cents and match grade at 20 to 25 cents. We look at why the Aguila 60 grain SSS shoots great in one barrel and terrible in another, where the speed of sound line actually bites, why rimfire ignition gives you the occasional dud, why the chamber and bolt need cleaning more than the bore, and what a 10 mph crosswind does to a .22 at 100 and 200 yards. If you shoot a Ruger 10/22, a Henry AR-7, or a bolt action target rifle, at least three of these will change how you buy ammo and how you spend your range day.
