3:05:04 Biologist here. I stumbled upon your channel because I'm a big fan of the Aliens franchise, and was recommended your video essay about Alien: Isolation. You make very interesting and high-quality content.

Regarding the subject at hand, as you correctly assumed, this "bioplasma" is pure technobabble. The usual meaning of "plasma" in the biological context is blood plasma, which is the liquid part of our blood in which the blood cells and proteins are transported. This is definitely not what is being referred to here. The plasmatic membrane is an ingenious interpretation, one that has not occurred to me, but still out of the question. This is some kind of magical substance that settles underneath your skin and serves as a protective layer against enemy attacks. If it were a plasma in the physical sense, it would definitely incinerate you :D

Science nerds: This video game level is set in this specific location of Mars.

Game devs, sweating: Yes, of course, completely intentional. Thank you for noticing!

Trying to "canonize" the speedrunner railboost tech is absolute comedy gold. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I realized what you were referring to.

    About Vega's location
One of the logs makes it clear that Vega is located in the North Pole of Mars, not near the main UAC base

1:01:58 As far as I'm concerned in Doom 3 there is a log that says that there was a delivery error and chainsaws got send to mars instead of somewhere where they would be useful

"300% Adrenaline 300% Testosterone 66.6% Story" is so accurate, especially when it adds up.
1:11:17 Control and automation engineer here. The end (claw) of those manipulators (robotic arms) are just scissor-grips, meant to grab objects with parallel surfaces with even distribution of grip load (several mechanical tools have the same configuration). And given the number of joints on the manipulators themselves, they can easily make any motion in all 6 DOF, so the purpose of the end piece is really just for grip.
1:34:00 Unrelated to engineering, but real life creepiness bleeding out: Axon has a company culture that is really close to that. From company encouraging tattooing the company logo to getting themselves tased (to prove the products were safe). Tasers still killed a lot of people and the company still issued a default e-mail about how to deal with taser related deaths ("excited delirium" and all the other crap they came up with).
1:48:24 It might seem over-engineered, but higher DOF means more flexibility, allowing different operations with the same setup. If they were built to task, any changes in operation would require a completely new one (which could increase the costs compared to have one machine for multiple tasks). Also, high possibility that these are off-the-shelf manipulators that can be inserted on any task, possibility enhanced by the use of the mounting rail. This system ends up being both flexible and scalable. About stopping the conveyor for work, it's slightly irrelevant, while work on moving pieces is slightly preferable. Either the work piece is stopped, worked, and moved (which results in an average work speed considering the stops and movements), or the piece is moved while working at the same average speed (it's trivial to move the manipulators mid-work with that setup). When you don't need to stop the piece, you don't have to deal with acceleration and deceleration (no need to worry about inertia), so it's slightly more energy efficient. Working while moving is only less convenient when the manipulators are fixed (the working window is tied to the effective working range of the manipulator), so this rail setup is still great for this type of workflow. And even if multiple manipulators can't cross themselves on the same rail, they can still share work (one does half of every piece, the other finished the rest), with the amount of manipulators being able to increase the work throughput.

(will keep updating as I finish watching)

    At 21:15.

The map isn’t regional to Hellas, it’s showing the whole of Mars. The third relay is in Isidis, the stuff on the far left is the highlands of Olympus/Tharsis, and the gash is Valles Marinersis.

Hellas would be the “crater” south of the relay, past Tyrrena, and that “crater” to the right is Elysium mons.
