  It seriously never crossed my mind that there could&apos;ve been dialogue for Reef Blower. I always saw it as the show just wanting to try a silent, slapstick-focused episode for funsies.

  The idea that rather than Nickelodeon’s audio equipment “didn’t work” and that’s why they made an episode without dialogue is incredibly stupid lol. Of course it either came down to money, (which seems to be the case) wanting to make an episode that references older slapstick comedy cartoons with no dialogue like Tom and Jerry, or both. I’m guessing it’s both Nick wanting to pay voice actors as little as possible as well as the storyboarding team for SpongeBob wanting to create an episode that stands out and also references cartoons from their childhoods. I think the episode really wouldn’t work as well with dialogue.

  The theory about the Reef Blower situation is, kinda silly. Surely they would&apos;ve been better off postponing recording until the equipment was fixed rather than rework an entire episode that would&apos;ve likely been at the animatic stage at the very least.
