while attending a naval service school on engineering ,ran into a guy who was stationed on uss enterprise ,he worked in engine room ,his brother worked on flight deck. in a year they never saw each other ,only when they were both on leave.that how huge these carriers are.

I was a General Electric Engineer out of San Francisco Marine Department. I worked on many USN ships including Coral Sea, Carl Vinson, USS Enterprise, The Long Beach, Cimmaron, Pyro, Mauna Kea, SSN Los Angeles and La Jolla, and many more. Yes, I'm proud of you guys.<br><br>I met a sailor in one engineering space on the CGN-9 Long Beach. He was from the Ozarks and bragged ''I never wored no shews until I joined the Navy.'' He had size 18 boots and said they were still too tight. He knew exactly how many months and days he had left before his Navy career ended. <br><br>Hey, behind every bulkhead I saw in chalk or magic marker ''FTN''. What does this mean? Fun Times Now?

Peter Mims served on the USS Shiloh (CG 67), not an aircraft carrier. Yes, he hid on the ship, but his fellow sailors actually knew he was in the engine spaces just didn't care. The Shiloh had a particularly bad sounding and security watch, which wasn't actually patrolling the engine spaces like they should have, and a number of sailors saw Mims over that week but never said anything. His reason for this by the way was depression and martial problems.
