He broke the rules of singing to create a masterpiece

Electrifying, dangerous and impossible to ignore… 🌟 Find Your Own Unique Vocal Identity & Style 🌟 Join the waitlist for my brand-new course, coming soon! 👉 https://www.bethroars.com/course In this educational Vocal Coach analysis, Beth Roars breaks down Michael Jackson’s performance in the official music video for “Bad”, from his 1987 album with the same title. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the video’s cinematic tension, choreography and attitude all feed into the way Michael uses his voice: sharp, gritty, rhythmic and full of character. This analysis looks at Michael’s use of loud breaths, short and punchy phrasing and strategic breath planning to match his iconic jagged dance moves. He uses vocal grit, roughness and primal sounds to create a feeling of controlled danger. Beth also breaks down aryepiglottic narrowing, biting consonants and rhythmic articulation, showing how everything feels percussive, physical and full of attitude. Rather than sounding dangerous because the technique is unsafe, Michael Jackson’s performance in “Bad” works because he understands the rules well enough to bend them. The result is a vocal that feels tense, free, controlled, wild and unmistakably Michael. ______________________________________________________________________________________ 🎶 Free 5-Minute Vocal Warm-Up! 🎤 Get your voice ready to sing fast - grab my guide + audio track here: 👉 https://www.bethroars.com/warm-up 📖 Get Your Signed Copy of My Album "Fable": https://www.bethroars.com/shop Grab a limited edition signed copy of my album "Fable" 🥁 Support My Work on Patreon: Patreon: bethroars Join my Patreon community for exclusive content, early access, and more! 👉 My headphones: https://mezeaudio.com/products/109-pr... _________________________________________________________________________________ Episode Breakdown: 00:00 Intro 01:29 Listen To Those Breaths! 03:45 Glorious Grit & Primal Sounds 06:19 Tense But Free 08:02 Rhythm In The Voice 🛑 Watch the Original Video: Michael Jackson - Bad | Official Video (Michael Jackson - Bad (Shortened Version)) ❗Check out Michael Jackson here: https://www.michaeljackson.com _______________________________________________________________________ 🌍 Follow Me on Social Media: Facebook: facebook.com/bethroars Twitter: @bethroars Instagram: @bethroars Thanks to our Editor: Luís Santos https://luissantos.onfabrik.com Want to edit for us?
