I've lifted with this guy at the same gym in Tampa. I just remember how well spoken he was and how thoughtful every word that came out of his mouth was. Nothings changed!

Totally Relevant .... I'm a 60 year old man that was in “good health” as the opinion of many doctors that I would see over the last 50 years. I have reversed many of my health conditions after I increased red meat protein with clean MTC fats including saturated fat & low PUFA fats, I also cut out refined carbohydrates and lowered my carbohydrates to under 50 grams.

If you do not have health problems you probably will not notice the effect of eating high carbs and sugar until you become diabetic.
My A1C went down after my doctor said it will not go down and will never go down….. after 3 years of low A1C my diagnosis of diabetes has been removed. My symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) have completely gone away with no surgery. I have more energy, no daytime sleep required. No muscle pain, much easier to climb into the truck. Allergies are much better.
PS: I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet that is getting better with time. Because I have this peripheral neuropathy in my feet it is very difficult for me to exercise. I did not have the energy to exercise. I drive a truck all day so I do not have time to exercise. I lost 40 lbs….. how can anyone say this is not Relevant?

For me, this is the most credible, most evidence-based, most reliable, conclusive study relative to benefits of the ketogenic diet episode on glucose levels, predicting performance and optimum metabolic health I’ve ever seen and from which I’ve beneficially learned. Thank you Thomas and Dr. Andrew Koutnik. I am most grateful! - Paul C.

Thank you for highlighting the "fit but unhealthy athlete" paradox! 🚨 Discovering that 30% of high-carb athletes had pre-diabetes symptoms is a massive wake-up call. Performance should NEVER come at the expense of long-term metabolic health. Your health span is more important than your sprint time. 💡

This is one of the biggest questions I recently facing as an ultra runner. I have been experiencing last 2 years with limiting fuel as much possible during long duration run. I recently figure out I only need start eating at 2hr mark. And then half an orange for maybe next hour depends on the weather. Normally my heart rate flat out after 3 hrs and normally stay at low zone 3 comfortabily the rest of the day. At the zone 3 state my experience tell me that an orange every hour is all I need. I aware most of the energy problem is to do with salt deficiency instead, especially hot weather mindful with magnesium(muscle tension) and potassium(elevated heart rate) deficiency. By saying this, I also received an adviced by my friend as a experience ultra runner telling me I need 60g of carb. every hour, and that is like 4 oranges per hour. Artificial products never work on me, so I decided to stick to what I experimented. Just shared some of the discovery.

This reminds me of the story of champion cyclist Greg LeMond. He snacked on sardines, not carb drinks or gels. While the others were bonking, he had sustained energy which won him Tour de France.

I’m not an elite athlete. Still, this is a fascinating discussion.

My best Zone 3 runs are in a fasted state when I’m running on fat. I’ve always noticed that.

Back in my Navy Spec Ops days, i was often jokingly referred to as 'life support for legs' ... I'm not tall and had no formal training but literally no one could keep up with me (in our cohort). That was 25 years ago. About a year ago I switched to keto and, holy shit, within a few weeks I felt like a jackrabbit again. I'm at my best these days running fasted.

I always love it when you have Dr. Koutnik on! He's such a treasure of information, he knows his stuff, and knows how to explain study results very well.
