  Perfectly summed up….. all I found in Morocco was friendly people happy to see us and just so welcoming. We purposely stayed away from the tourist traps as much as we could staying in Berber guesthouses where, despite being basic, we were welcomed as guests of the family. Yes in the busier places everyone wants to sell you something, but they’re trying to survive and when I said I was on a motorbike and had no room they’d smile and just want to chat. I honestly felt safer in Morocco than in London or most European cities. When we were riding over the High Atlas from the Dades Gorge on the R704 (an amazing road) we stopped to buy petrol (served from plastic bottles with a funnel) from a roadside building in Agoudal in the mountains. The guys there looked like extras from Star Wars but because it was raining they asked us in to have a coffee to warm up. That summed up Morocco and it’s people to me 😊

  I first visited Morocco in 1981, when I had long hair and wore hippyish clothes. UK customs made a point of asking where I was going, laughing and taking my name and address for when I was arrested! When we arrived in Asilah, in the north, we were advised not to leave the site as it 'wasn't safe'. We ignored this of course and travelled around, meeting lovely people, drinking mint tea, and on one occasion sitting with a group of camel drivers and smoking kif. We travelled by train to Marrakech and back up to Asilah. And yes we did see some dodgy places, but no more than I can see in my home town. I returned to Morocco in 2017 and will definitely be going back again.

  You’re right about the travel advice from people who’ve never travelled. <br>There’s nothing quite as evocative of adventure as looking out over the rooftops of an arabic town and hearing the call to prayer.<br>Looking forward to seeing your experience of travelling in the desert.

  i did a solo ride around Morocco a few years ago , &nbsp;the Moroccan people are gracious , friendly . helpful and inquisitive &nbsp;. i want to go back
