  When Elvis passed James Brown would not leave him, he stayed for hours with Elvis. Yeah, they were tight. Miss them both very much.

  As a black man and Elvis fan since a teenager nothing more needs to be said. &nbsp;The Godfather of soul said it perfectly about the king of rock ‘n’ roll. &nbsp;Elvis opened up so many doors for black artists.

  Not only James Brown, but Muhammad Ali, Jackie Wilson, B.B. King, Rufus Thomas, and Sammy Davis Jr all counted Elvis as a real friend to them. Also his back-up singers The Sweet Inspirations loved him like a brother.

  I have been to Graceland twice. &nbsp;The second time, I saw the same young black lady from my first trip, who works there. &nbsp;I stopped and spoke with her. &nbsp;She told me she was the third generation in her family to work there. &nbsp;Now, please let that sink in. &nbsp;I came of age in the early 90&apos;s. &nbsp;I did buy into the negative hype about Elvis and never thought twice about it until this point. &nbsp;I dove into finding out all that I &nbsp;could about Elvis. &nbsp;Some perspectives will always differ, but my final conclusion is that I &nbsp;was very wrong. &nbsp;The actual words and stories of the people involved are what truly matter and not people&apos;s feelings and hunches. &nbsp;Elvis is a true icon, and I will always believe in the man and what he did for those he loved and respected.

  NUMEROUS black performers and entertainers had mutually respectful and strongly affectionate relationships with Elvis. From Jackie Wilson to Muhammad Ali. Elvis was the polar opposite of a racist.
