  I love how the trolls come out with the" How to make hot water by making a hot water heater" comments. They cant see the forest because of the trees! I just built one myself from a smokeless fire pit of Amazon for around $150.00. Its for camping, but can be used for emergencies as well. 50 feet of stainless coil inside the fire box. Nothing to it, but when you are without power, and have to improvise things like this make a world of difference. The point is to use a resource you have an excess amount of rather than paying for a resource you cant always get, or have to work hard for either to pay for it or to retreive it. Either one is a waste of money when you have another way. Nobody ever became a rich person by spending all their money!

  A suggestion of optimization. When burning any fossil fuel the fire burn temperature is an important consideration, so with this understanding it is best not to expose the cooper coil directly to the flames. This seems counterintuitive, but thinking about the burn efficiency for a while on it makes a lot of sense. So instead of directly heating the coil in the flames, the burn and flames should be allowed to develop (without removing of heat) in an internal chimney ( like in a rocket stove ) and the copper should be placed in the hot bell that is between the internal chimney and the outside bell metal (covered with fire insulation). With such a design I have achieved the best results and over 99% efficiency (absolutely blue flames) when burning and extracting the heat. I have sample videos on my channel.

  What a cool design! I really enjoyed the technique and expertise Cole demonstrated. I would love to have some of those toys to build some home projects like a water heater for my pool.

  Nice to see you getting such great results from the bender.  Definitely a first class addition to the shop. I got a kick out of your coil winding rig. I'd have tried it around a piece of pvc pipe with a lot of wrestling and cussing...😮

  Another thought, if you don’t have a CNC but you have the ability to create a design, there’s a lot of formats your local CNC plate shop will gladly accept. Even better if you use your design to get multiple quotes to get some competition in your prices.
