  As a graduated electrical and electronics engineer from Switzerland, I like to watch, how other countries handle electrical installations. In Switzerland, mid-span taps are never done due to higher movement- and increased material fatigue rate. When a new house is connected from an overhead power line (typically 10-30kV), there is a mast-transformer for each home (or group of houses) and from there, new masts are planted towards each house. If distances are close, the power lines are connected via a sub-soil ducts.

  My power went dim like i was only getting 25% of what it is normally. It was middle of winter here in maine 4 a.m. on a saturday and record cold was almost -40 F with the wind chill.  Brutal february morning.  No power ,meant no furnace. Thought for sure it was inside issue and my problem. Called poqer company they sent truck over to check as i was only person without power i didnt think theyd be able to help. Turns out it was a old nuetral wire that was arching and melting on the pole that went to my service.  Luckily they had it fixed in 5 min and furnace came back to life. Great guys to come that fast ,that early in morning brutal cold and wind. Mad respect to you guys.

  Ex Bell Sytem here. Envious of hanging a midspan service from a bucket truck. We had to hang a ladder midspan for a mid span drop! Rocking and rolling! Had to do one on a bare span wire, me and the ladder went sliding down the span when I was 3/4 of the way up! Wheeeeee!!!

  30 years in the fire service in Los Angeles and always had a lot of respect for the linemen we worked with. &nbsp; Good guys and super competent. &nbsp; I don’t think people have enough respect for what they do.

  I give you a lot credit, 63 yrs ago I had a choice of being a plumber, pipe fitter, sheet metal worker or an electrician.<br>First electrician I worked with shook when he was wiring up a hot panel, told how dangerous the job was, one mistake was the last mistake. Became a plumber you can always dry off! &nbsp;😎
