the worst people I’ve met in my life have been other gay people. If I could give advice to my younger self it would be to not focus too much on other gay people. The best friends in my life are straight, and that’s fine by me.

I'm a single, 62 yr old gay male. Very much have been a loner all my life. The only time I ever feel loneliness is when I go to family gatherings, and I am the only one there all the time with no partner. Other times I am doing something that keeps me from feeling loneliness.

I recently turned 70.  In my lifetime, I have buried two partners (one from AIDS), as well as my parents and numerous friends and relatives. I don't have much family at this point in time and the ones I do have are scattered across the country.  Despite my efforts to make friends with younger gay men I haven't found them to be particularly welcoming.  I get most of my companionship from my few straight friends that I have, including some women.  What I do miss most is the physical and emotional intimacy with another man.  Unfortunately, there aren't many men in my age group who are still around, available and who don't have a drug or alcohol problem.  Keeping busy helps with the loneliness, staying active and informed.  Having a pet helps too, if you can manage it.  They are a lot of work but the love is unconditional.

I got dogs 30 years ago and it has made all the difference! Dogs give you something to take care of, something to get you out and about to meet people, and something wonderful that gives you unconditional love. My dogs have made me smile a lot and have made me a better person. There are many many older people who are NOT gay who are lonely. When you get older you lose a lot of people you know.

I’ve been in the pits of despair because of loneliness, and this is why I really resent those Christian fundamentalists who want gays to be celibate and single all their lives: they would condemn us to a life of soul destroying loneliness, devoid of intimacy and love.

What helps me combat loneliness is attending 12-step meetings and being a singer in the Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus.  They've extended my friend circles and chosen family.

Some wonderful points guys. Tom please appreciate that your experience of loneliness as a man with a partner is very different from a single person.  Keep up the good work

Two gay men here 65. & 74. Not lonely but we don’t have many gay friends. We live in a straight community.

I don't have time to feel loneliness. I gotta take care of my parents, both over ninety. That demands a lot of my time. I've never liked social midia meaning never had Facebook, Instagram or X (former Twitter). My nephews and nieces call me "Uncle T-Rex" for that. I keep my mind busy learning a foreign language, going to the gym, chatting with some friends, traveling. I've always enjoyed my own company. I've seen people crackin' up during the pandemic. They just couldn't be alone/enjoy themselves. I feel the need of meeting interesting people these days. I can't cope with my gay "friends" who insist on being Peter Pan over 60. I don't want to keep talking about cocks' size, perfect butts 'n' abs, who's gay, bi ou straight. I'm not 20 anymore. Some gays refuse to grow up. Anyway, the show must go on.

As a 50 year old man, I want to find more friends my age. We become invisible in our community at this age which is something I really dislike.

Hi both<br>As older gay men we need to come out again as older gay men . Where you live as you age is also important. Having hobbies brings you in contact with others

Great video. I have found the gay community often not welcoming or accepting. It’s challenging to seek connection and support from the same group of people who are more judging and rejecting than supportive….not always but frequently.
