I closed shop a year ago. Nope, not happening. I was with a guy for 20 years, married and now alone with 4 cats, 10 acres of land and a house. These men out here, my god, I took running back to the woods. I dated one (probably a stray) over a year ago, he kept showing up at my house, until I got the law involved in the matter. No thanks, I’ll be alone.

You've got to be careful; there were 2 guys in their mid-60s who were stabbed to death a couple years ago in Columbus, Ohio. They hooked up with a younger kid on Grinder, and for some reason, he stabbed them to death. He was caught and killed himself in jail.

I have never used a hook up app and would not trust one, especially in 2025. If you ask a person a question on an app, all they have to do it put your question in the ChatGbt to get an acceptable response even if it's not the response they would normally give. I'm old school. The initial meeting has to be in person, which I know is pretty hard to accomplish these days. Not to mention I'm just downright terrified of going to a stranger's house and I'm definately not inviting them to mine!

If they are not honest up front, that situation is unsafe. Leave.

Exactly.. Hookups are so so sterile and especially when it's a couple, you tend to be the one who goes home alone after sex and sleeps alone. As strange as it sounds, sex is not that important to me anymore... A talk, hug, or cuddle has much higher value....

The main thing is to be straightforward and voice your concerns if the other party lied about who they are or if the environment is just wrong. Especially when the guy is trying to guilt you into doing something that you do not feel comfortable with

Love the naivety. I am super picky and rarely hook up at 58. Just tell the person what you enjoy and you have given their address in case. 😊 Hooking up makes me extremely nervous, but often very enjoyable.

I loved it when Michael said he would never give up on wanting a relationship no matter how old he was. It gives this newly-widowed 70-year old a lot of much needed optimism in wanting to find a partner again to grow old. I remember in the 80’s and even 90’s when blatant racism and ageism were unapologetically found in gay newspapers ads that said “ No Asians or Blacks…No over-40 need to apply…” Being an old Asian, I thought my chances of finding someone interested in me would be next to nil. Michael, you are inspiring. 👍

Always listen to the inner voice. If it is saying something is wrong, there is a reason.

I'm 66 and have pretty much given up. I live in a small city in the Midwest and it has been over a decade since I hooked up. In fact, if I think of it I've only had sex (if you can call it that) once in the past 20 years. And before that was really seldom. If I'm honest with myself I have never been on a real date with anyone. I never had anything that anyone wanted. I wasn't good looking or successful enough for anyone to me interested in me. And now I'm too old so, the hookup thing is really something I never had much experience with. I envy the guys who were lucky enough to find a partner early on in life and I have no idea at all how older guys get love, sex or anything. It's not so much that I've given up, I suppose....it's just that I've given in. The reality is that I've never been good enough to be gay or to be attractive enough for gay men. It is what it is.....Now I'm just trying to accept things as they are.

You guys are the best. Thank you for putting this out there. I'm in a small town in Nebraska where life just seems to stand still for an out and proud gay man over 50. Your content always makes me realize that these problems aren't just mine but all of ours as a collective. I've been on both ends of this...a 24 year relationship that went away and being single with tumbleweeds. One thing I had to learn was that self love is the only thing that matters. It took me 55 years to learn but by golly I have!
Again thank you for being the light that I need for confirmation!

I've heard people say " If you're going to be on the apps, you should be on PrEP. Just to be safe".
