  My husband was 19 at the time and sat on the freeway for hours trying to get to this concert. Finally gave up and went back home. Glad he did.

  Drove by daily on my commute from Modesto to Livermore. Friends and I would stop on Fridays in the early 80's after work as our Happy Hour destination. The grandstands were collapsing and it was desolate. No people anywhere. We would play the music from the concert from our car stereos. No security, No fences. letting the work week fade

  I was there and I was 23 at the time. &nbsp;Cars were parked on both sides of the freeway for at least a mile or more in each direction. &nbsp;We were up on a hill quite some distance from the stage and the helicopters were landing just behind us. &nbsp;We had no idea what was going on till the Stones stopped in the middle of a song and Mick Jagger started asking people to calm down. &nbsp;If you look closely at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2undJohpZLM&amp;t=814">13:34</a> behind that flag pole, there is a green school bus. &nbsp;My best friend sold that to Chet Helms. &nbsp;I remember seeing it from the hill we were on. &nbsp;I spent a lot of time riding in that school bus including the time we got pulled over because it was illegal to have a bus painted school bus yellow, so we painted it green.

  My friends and I talked about going to this. &nbsp;I lived in Bakersfield at the time. &nbsp;Glad we didn&apos;t go. &nbsp;We changed our minds when we heard that the Hells Angels were doing security. &nbsp;That&apos;s a guaranteed recipe for disaster.

  These people were born just 13 years before me and yet it looks, feels like a different universe. When I was 19, it was 1982, another universe.

  I can remember, as a child of 7 yrs old, being stuck on the freeway with all the traffic. &nbsp;I was with both my parents and my brother. I vividly remember the hells angels riding by both sides of our car. There were so many of them. It was so loud. I was very scared. We had been at my uncles house in the Bay Area, celebrating Christmas early. I have never forgotten this childhood memory.

  As an impressionable 9 year old, learning about drugs in my 4th grade class, the events of this concert left an indelible mark on my childhood and how I would shape my life. &nbsp;I have never done ANY drugs at all, not even pot. &nbsp;Heck I avoid legitimate pharmaceuticals, too, unless necessary and given by a doctor, and I trust very few of them. &nbsp;Altamont was big news in Cupertino. &nbsp;Many older siblings of friends of mine attended the event, and the ones I knew were devastated by the actions of the Hell&apos;s Angels and even said it destroyed their enjoyment of the concert. &nbsp;There was such a darkness surrounding Altamont after that. &nbsp;It was referred to in hushed tones and considered a taboo subject in many homes.

  I remember hearing about this. The stabbing and the HA involved. Back then, concerts weren&apos;t planned out for the crowds they drew. Weird to think most if these people are in their 80s now!
