  Amazing how drunks often seem to survive these crashes, and the sober folks die. Sad.

  I&apos;ll never forget that evening. I was driving a fully loaded semi. Sam must have been about a &nbsp;mile behind me. It was before sunset. There was a long winding sort of S curve in the road just before reaching a set of railroad tracks. <br>As i approached the first curve. A pickup truck going southbound veered into my lane. It was half way in my.lane. i swerved so hard trying to avoid an accident. I swerved so hard that my semi almost tipped over. &nbsp;I got on my CB radio to allert anyone listening. Another driver responded back that he will be looking out for the pickup. Then the other driver came back with a reply that he just hit someone. I asked if he thought they needed help. If so i would come back to assist. He then replied that he didnt think so because many were stopping. <br><br>The next day late afternoon, I was rolling down I-80 near North Plate Nebraska. While listening to the local FM radio station. It was reported that Sam had passed away in a head on collision on hwy 95 near needles CA. &nbsp;I was very stunned by the news. As he was one of my favorite comedians to listen to. Tjose kids in that pickup should count there blessings. If i hadnt have swerved to miss them. They would have all perished in a blink of an eye and &nbsp;Sam would still be here today. <br>Its been more than 30 years ago since this happened. And im still beyond myself over this incident.

  I met Sam once at LAX airport. He was on our plane from Denver to LA, word got around that he was up in first class while we were in the air. Once we landed I was with a group on a business trip. I saw Sam standing there in the airport with no one around him. I said to others in my group let&apos;s go talk to him, but nobody else wanted to approach him.<br>I walked up to him with a pen and my flight ticket holder in hand, the only thing handy to have him sign. He looked just like you would expect with his hat and coat on.<br>I said hello Sam could I get your autograph? He calmly replied Sure what&apos;s your name? When he had finished and handed it back I thanked him and he said you&apos;re welcome. He was very nice to me.<br>I walked away and looked at what he wrote:<br>&quot;To Joe, Autograph. Sam &nbsp;Kinison&quot;<br><br>RIP Sam

  Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan, &nbsp;got sober in 86 and met his love and was on top of the world until Aug 27 1990 and a helicopter crash about an hour from my house

  I loved the SNL skit where he pretended to be the teacher. He told the parents how stupid their kid was, then climbed out the window when the real teacher came.

  My dad and I placed that marker there!!! He made it for Sam and we drove up one morning. Glad to see it’s still standing! 🙌

  I’m a retired truck driver and on occasion transported fly ash from the Edison power plant in &nbsp;Laughlin, I drove on Hwy 95 the day after Sam passed and as a fan, I was looking for the crash site, however I saw no sign of an accident, I agree it was on river road, thanks for your reporting and research…

  Great story telling sir. The car was an 89 turbo trans am. It had the Buick GN motor. Sam had great taste in cars. Man I miss the 80&apos;s.
