  I had the privilege of working with the Duke occasionally across five years.  A very clever man, with a great sense of humour and enormous kindness.

  The vandalism in the shop bathroom was really uncalled for. Underwear in the toilet water tank? A photo ripped off the wall? This is why everything nice is now under lock and key, and if it isn’t then it really should be. It only takes a few bad visitors to ruin a good thing for everyone else. Same with the people who were ignoring the backpack rule inside the manor. I swear the cameras went to the same guy at least two times. They should just ban backpacks at the entrance and be done with it, instead of running around after people.

  I have visited many English Country Houses and Chatsworth was the best - the place of course is magnificent but it was the warmth of the staff and the welcome feel you got when visiting that made it truly special.

  When tickets are purchased people should be told to put their backpacks in front.

  Lovely to see a grand home so well looked after with all that lovely history ... and nice to see so many family's employed there. Wish i could visit

  When we arrived at Chatsworth, and after entering the car park, the Duke and Duchess were just landing by helicopter right in front of us.  They were very friendly and welcoming.  What we loved most was the introduction of contemporary art into the stunning collection of historic furnishings.  Amazing massive ceramics next to a chair from the era of George III.  We just loved it and hope to go back again.

  I am surprised that they don't have a "zero back packs allowed" (leave them in your car or don't bring one with you) rule, and children to hold the parent's hand at all times or be in a stroller. There are priceless collections all over the place.
