As a passing trans guy in high school with rumours about my past, this perfectly sums up the anxiety and dysphoria that comes with using bathrooms. The boys’ bathroom only has cubicles with damaged locks so I usually change in disabled toilets(that’s what the whole thing made me feel like, anyway). I hope there’s a better future for our trans brothers and sisters and that our existence is no longer stigmatised.

I was so worried that whole time that Gabe would get harassed by those dudes, and that anxiety was shown within him too. Portrayed beautifully. I'm glad they were cool with him being there. They didn't push him out for being trans. But at what cost? In the end I feel like Gabe contributing to the tally mark wall was a way of him trying to fit in with the other boys. But fitting in meant doing something unkind. The social dilemma. Commented by a fellow trans man.

I know that pressure from male friends, ‘cause when I was in middle school I “came out” as a trans guy, and my male friends started treating me differently, not badly, but more “toxically”, and when I changed to a new school years later, my new male friends didn’t knew I was trans, they just thought I was a cis guy, so I noticed that even though I was passing as “normal” guy, I still felt that toxicity as if they made me feel ashamed of these “””boy things””” I didn’t knew about or wasn’t interested, like watching and playing sports or building a PC setup or whatever, like I realized doesn’t matter if you’re a cis or trans male, people always will put you in the “gender box” stereotype, even when they seem to be accepting of your identity, like for example, when I came out at 11 y.o. I cried a lot ‘cause I was petrified of it and in less then a hour of me coming out my dad already screamed in my face “DIDN’T YOU SAID YOU WANTED TO BE A MAN? HUH? REAL MEN DON’T CRY NEITHER IS WEAK OR AFRAID” and ‘till then he said so many horrible stuff to me, always questioning how I acted and saying things between fights, were I showed I was afraid of him or crying, like “well, wasn’t you that wanted to be a man? Now face the consequences of your choices” and he just kept shattering my soul with all sorts of awful terrible words, swearing at me, screaming, beating me, strangling me, just being a never ending nightmare in my life, until he and my mom separated and I turned 18 this year of 2026 and haven’t spoke to him ever again in more than a years and hope to never having to see his face again, ‘cause a real real man wouldn’t let anyone take him for granted and say what should or should not be like, I promise, the tables will turn, even if my life doesn’t go the way I wanted, but I guarantee that I’ll have fought ‘till the last breath, and I hope all folks like me, all outcasts like me, can do the same, just fight and never ever give up, don’t let people get the worst out of you, you gotta keep your morals and ethics no matter what, don’t level down, be the best human you can be, I swear, life gets less harsher and peace comes way easier, never give up who you are.

I was expecting the boys to find out he was trans and to beat him up or somthing. But to have the bullies affirm him was kinda nice not gonna lie, especially with how transphobic it feels like everything is right now
