Just came for the ADHD discussion and felt very seen- adhd, hypermobility, dysautonomia, asthma (MCAS? Rashes with some new things) Lyme etc etc. I have so much of what you touched on, the connection is real. Thank you for this.

With ADHD we are very very sensitive people. When we get sick or are in pain it's a serious problem for us it's like an intergalactic attack on us highest stress and fears possible

Thanks for putting this out, it needs to be heard also in the medical community. My doctors no NOTHING of this. I had to print out papers to prove I am not making it up.

I've been waiting for a presentation on this subject for a while now! Thank you! Everything you mention makes so much sense. Even more so, when you consider the research on nutrition in ADHD and on the effectiveness of ADHD medication compared to Pycnogenol, an anti-inflamatory supplement used in France for centuries. I couldn't be keener on seeing more of your conclusions, thoughts and explorations. Thank you again!

Thank you for this presentation! At age eleven, my son with ADHD had what the ENT who treated him called "a perfect storm" - he got what seemed to be a severe cold, and it never went away. The ENT ran allergy tests, prescribed a round of antibiotics, and eventually removed his adenoids. Now five years later he still suffers from chronic congestion. Last month an allergist ran another battery of tests and determined that he has a high allergy (level 6) to dust mites. No one else in his family has any known allergies.

OMG!!! Listened to this on the ADD audio only podcast- came here to see the slides…

When you listed the usually “unrelated” medical conditions?? I got full body tingles and then tears… You were describing ME!!!

Among others you said… decades long dysautonomia/POTS, hyper mobility, autoimmune issues (that rheumatologist said was ‘for sure something AI, not sure exactly what’) chronic stomatitis, HSV, latex allergy, tree nut and other food allergies & sensitivities- lips and face swelling & mouth feels like I swished around too-hot coffee), GI issues- that GI doc couldn’t figure out- “not sure- come back if it gets worse”… and others…. Wow…. Rewatching this again and thinking I may be giving you/your office a call here, shortly…

For decades have had all of these issues- I kinda quit looking into them bc I started to feel like a hypochondriac- also thoughts of ‘maybe I’m a bit crazy’…

This is giving me so much hope!!!

I'm glad your children have you to advocate for them, Dr. Kustow. I've dealt with hypermobility and most of the associated issues you listed my whole life and when my health really blew up in my early 40s, it was a long lonely road to find the answers and help I needed.

This information is huge and mainstream medicine has a lot of catching up to do.

My two cents: Sleep-disordered breathing is a significant driver of inflammation and I think we underestimate its impacts. I think it should have a more central place in this presentation. I can totally get behind the bigger, super syndrome view, to a point where ADHD may just be a sub-syndrome of it, not a developmental disorder. Just like fibromyalgia is a sub-syndrome. I know, bold statement!

I think Upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) and sleep apnea (OSA), which are tied to having hyperlax tissue in the airway, are massive drivers of many of the symptoms/syndromes talked about here. Deprive the body from oxygen and restorative deep sleep and watch it manifest itself in the most unpleasant ways. These syndromes feed off each other too.
