Disclaimer: I thought this was the movie I was supposed to watch. Little did I know that Crunchyroll SEPERATED JJK 0 into a separate search and does not include it in the drop down. The only movie INCLUDED in the drop down is actually the version released in 2025, which is the entirety of 2 x 1 to 2 x 5 cut down into a movie version. Which I watched. Thinking it was the movie. So here we are.

Yes, I did watch JJK 0 the next day! Is it a different viewing experience after having seen 2 x 1 to 2 x 5? Yes. Though as much as I intended to watch in release order I'm happy it worked out the way it did because JJK 0 was MUCH MORE impactful to me from a narrative and character perspective with the context of Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc.

I was sad because it would have been great to watch these as episodes rather than a movie but I also REALLY enjoyed how it was paced and set out. Hopefully you all aren't disappointed either and I do the arc justice with my discussions! JJK 0 is with my editor so it'll likely be with us next Friday on the 28th or alternatively you can watch it uncut on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/DrSophieDarlingReacts :_Heart:

"He's cool as fuck, but he's a piece of shit." A more concise summary of Toji there has never been.

I like that Geto never lost the 'the strong protect the weak' part of his ideology, what changed instead was his definition of 'the weak.' In the beginning, 'the weak' referred to ordinary people who can't protect themselves from cursed spirits and the like. However, 'the weak' slowly morphed to refer to jujutsu sorcerers who sacrificed so much to protect the masses from a problem that is almost solely caused by the masses. 'The weak' became those who are forced to cull the symptoms of the substrate of human negativity to minimize the scope of the problem, but never actually solve the actual problem.

Something you'll miss if you don't know japanese is Geto's admonishment about 'being more polite' is actually about telling Gojo to change the first person pronoun he use to refer to himself. Teen Gojo always uses 'ore' which is common for teenage boys (Megumi uses it iirc) but can be seen as haughty or arrogant when used in front of someone older or higher 'rank' (upperclassman, your boss, etc.). Geto always uses 'watashi' which is like a more formal pronoun, but as far as I understand, pretty uncommon for boys (or men in casual setting) to use.

Geto told Gojo to use 'boku' which is softer than 'ore' and 'watashi' when talking to someone like the higher ups of jujutsu. You can see how Gojo actually started following this advice after Geto's departure, when he used 'boku' while talking to child Megumi and as an adult, we almost exclusively only see him use 'boku' instead of 'ore' (you can listen to it if you pay attention).

The fact that you were confusing Toji and Megumi, is great character design

It doesn't mention in anime but tojis wife was the only purpose him leaving zenin clan and living happily, later she died for unknowing reasons for us and that led Toji to isolation from everything including his son, you can see that before death he remembered his happiest moment (his wife with newborn megumi in hands) and decides do something good before death

    Tidbits from the official fanbook:

the author answers that adult Gojo still finds it tiring to be considerate of those weaker than him, but to a lesser degree. So it's not like Gojo changed or shifted perspective completely, but he learned to cherish and follow the guidance that Geto imparted on him during their years together, to look out for other people. However, Gojo still isn't like Yuuji who's feels heavily whenever someone died, Gojo is capable of accepting sacrifices be made in dire situations, which we'll see in his actions later in Shibuya Incident. The fanbook also stated that in the scene of asking about killing the cultists, Gojo used Geto's judgement as his 'moral compass of good and evil'.

Gojo's JP voice actor also shared his interpretation in an interview that he views teen Gojo as 'being able to act as he pleases because he trusts/relies on Geto to clean up after him' and 'Geto is the first person that could really talk and meet Gojo at the same level'.

The Gojo x Geto breakup is a thing to be studied for future generations.

A couple really cool details that I love and that are frequently missed:

1. In the scene where Gojo floats into the air before using Hollow Purple, there’s beautiful accompanying piano music in the background (my personal favourite song from the series, “If I am with you”). That music is basically Amanai’s theme, the only other time it plays is during the montage of Amanai trying to enjoy her last day before assimilating. We see that when Gojo says “Sorry, Amanai”, the music starts playing, and the shadow of a bird can be seen crossing over Gojo. I think it’s implied that that bird is Amanai watching Gojo in that moment, given the common symbolism of birds as fallen loved ones and the timing of the music aligning with the bird showing up. It makes it seem as though Gojo is addressing the bird as Amanai. It’s a really wonderful moment to me.

2. Megumi says early on in season 1 that he hates his father for giving him a name without regard for his gender, since “Megumi” is typically considered a girl’s name. It also means “blessing”, which is why when Toji kicks Geto and says that he has the blessing of parentage, Megumi’s name comes back to him. It seems like Toji intentionally gave Megumi a girl’s name, because he says to Gojo after first stabbing him that he tends to forget guys’ names. So he wanted to give his son a name he wouldn’t forget. Didn’t work all too well but hey, there was an effort 😂

So, you mentioned being confused by the Six Eyes, and that's not without good reason, as the explanation for these is only found in the extras in the manga and and is as follows(This isn't a spoiler as it's revealed early on): The Six Eyes are a biological ocular mutation found only in the Gojo clan. They allow their wielder to accurately see and understand the flow of cursed energy. The information provided by the eyes is so precise that upon seeing the cursed energy of others, a user can almost immediately understand its workings, allowing them to accurately discern the person's skills, techniques, level, and power. Likewise, the wielder can see and understand their own cursed energy, enabling them to develop an infinitely precise control over it. The author said that Gojo's eyes are similar to a very high-resolution infrared camera, and it's because of this that he covers them up, because it's very tiring for him to take in all that information constantly.
