The oversimplified version is that Scott (blond), Mitch (hat) and Kirstin met as kids doing community theater and various choirs. When they wanted to do The Sing-Off they needed five members so they got Avi (bass) through the college a capella scene and they actually picked up Kevin (beat boxer) on YouTube, messaging him from a video he posted that went viral. When Avi left the group later, Matt (current bass) is the only member who had to audition... but he was prompted to audition by the same mutual friend who'd got them Avi.

If you haven't seen their video of Bohemian Rhapsody, it's a must. The things they did to match what Queen did, are amazing. It took them 5 years to get it the way they wanted it. To pay proper homage to Freddie Mercury.

Kevin, their beat boxer, has a pre-med degree from Yale. He is also a classically trained cellist. Even though Pentatonix is an acapella group, they sometimes let him play cello in their live performances. Kevin is renowned for being able to beat box and play cello at the same time. Also, he sings along with them sometimes.

As a music engineer you might like watching the making of their Evergreen Album from several years ago.

If your going down the PENTATONIX rabbit hole you really have to listen first to their DAFT PUNK medley as this won them their first grammy 👍👍👍Bloody amazing for A Cappella...
