Even 20 years later people are finding tells in the crowd like a bearded guy on the left side of the crowd will nod in the second round of piston Hondas match and you punch when he nods and honda will go down in one punch .

To expand a bit on the technical wizardry: Little Mac is actually part of the background, and him moving is achieved by scrolling the background. (There are actually two background layers, one for little mac at the bottom and the other for the crowd at the top).

12:03 Fun fact: if you remember correctly, there was a call back to this joke later in the Super Punch-Out!! video, during the part where he was talking about who could possibly beat Nick Bruiser. Truly, Designing For had come full circle XD

It's basically only just occurred to me, but despite some of the fighters, for example Aran Ryan not really developing their personalities right away, the Cast of opponents in the Punch-Out games are kinda like a Boxing equivalent to Dick Tracy villains, a collection of often exaggerated, but always memorable weirdos with Distinct and very recognizable designs and Fun over the top personalities to match them.

No, @ 26:00 He's talking about a password save. Saving used to take expense on cartridge components, so most games did the work around of having passwords you could input that'd take you to whereever you were.

I believe Piston Honda being weak to star punches when there's a four on the counter is a reference to four being considered an unlucky number in Japan due to its association with death. Either it sounds like death in Japanese or the kanji look similar, I can't remember

Yeah the original was very gradual rise, but then the Mike Tyson fight was go box a Grizzly bear, good luck you get three hits.

Glass Joe has sort of become like a badass in the eyes of Punch-Out fans simply because, well, who the hell else would keep getting in the ring to try again after 99 losses? There are real life boxers with actual more losses but that's because they lose on purpose.
