  I feel like he IS naturally talented but suffered from burnout after trying so hard and failing with Hyo, so instead he just calls himself average and tries to push himself to do better without acknowledging his own natural talent. Kind of like a post burnout gifted kid that fell off and started gaslighting themself into thinking they were average, if that makes sense? Maybe I'm just projecting lol

  I think the thing I like the most about how Zanka is written is just how much he feels like a teenager. Like ofc he has his cool shonen mentor front he puts on, but at his heart he just want to be better than others and impress people he looks up to, which is so deeply 17 year old “gifted kid” core it really feels real. He’s competitive! He seeks validation from things he probably shouldn’t stake his entire self esteem on!! Any time they show a bit of his internal monologue, it just makes him feel that much more human to me, flawed as it might be.

  Interesting! As somebody who grew up being put on a pedestal in grade school and then hitting reality hard in college, I genuinely identify with this video. I probably was Zanka at one point. I think Zanka is a high functioning depressed person (which i also was) and this is his survival mode. Eventually he has to reasses and grow into himself, but for now its fine if it gets him out of bed/the well. These days i think I've hit a semihealthy medium? Maybe? I know what my strengths are and know I'm the shit in those areas.....but I def struggle with the "adding skills vs redefining identity" aspect. An example of that would be discipline. I'm highly disciplined when it comes to prioritization.....but piss poor when it comes to starting and finishing things i say i want to do that require effort. Not sure where that lands me but here we are lol. Great vid! Glad i finally got to get in at the somewhat early days of a dope creators journey.

  I really agreed with your take with Zanka&apos;s mentality <br>I think his breaking point will definitely be learning more about Jabber or his family, but definitely a second fight with Jabber will be the catalyst

  One day he&apos;ll understand how &apos;not average&apos; he is. I can&apos;t wait, I hope I get to see it. I always love your break downs. I am also always thinking about Bakugo. This is the first time I&apos;ve heard someone compare these two, and it fits very well!<br><br>You&apos;ve put my random thoughts into words for me. All these &apos;gifted&apos; people that Zanka sees are probably not &apos;gifted&apos; I&apos;m sure they&apos;ve all had to work, all failed, everyone&apos;s got a sad backstory. Also, dodging &nbsp;bullets as a child is not average. <br><br>He&apos;s definitely not fine now. It helps, and it&apos;s worked for now, but you can kind of tell the &apos;I&apos;m average&apos; is barely holding on. It feels like a temporary patch.
