Parents are feeding their sons steak and their daughters lettuce, then claiming girls are just weaker than boys "because biology". What the hell happened to girl power?!

I once saw a comment that made me stop in my tracks and I still think about to this day . It was about an caregiver who was taking care of an old woman with dementia. This old woman couldn’t even remember her own name, her children’s name, or where she was. But when she didn’t eat, she would be so proud of herself for “being good” and being thin. This old woman was at such a stage of dementia that she lost her memories of everything, but she still remembered to count her calories.

My mother told me “if you don’t want to be bullied, stop fucking eating” I was about 7-8. She claims to this day she has no idea why I’m no contact with her when I now have ARFID and can’t eat or prepare food in front of people at the age of 22. It’s that deep.

When I was a child in the 90's and 00's, my mum had a slim body by normal standards but always described herself as fat and would occasionally say that I ruined her body (by being born).
I was probably around 8 the first time I tasted Herbalife even though I was slightly underweight, because my mum was always either in a "mum is allowed to eat real food" i.e. salad without dressing or "mum is only allowed Herbalife".
When I started going through puberty at age 10, my family members would pinch my "far hangers" i.e. skin, and called me sensitive when I cried. They said they prayed that it was just "puppy fat". I threw out my lunch every day and started avoiding eating which my mum responded to by just giving me money for school so I could eat if I were hungry.

When the school nurse told me that I had anorexia and that eating an apple and a bun a day was so far from enough, I was literally shocked. I went home to tell my mum who said that I didn't have anorexia cause I looked great. Later that week, she saw my changing clothes and realised exactly how much you could see my bones. No one understood why I has an ED and everyone blamed me for being "so silly". My mum still comments on my body and when I tell her not to, she says: "urgh, I can't say ANYTHING anymore".

My story is not unique. A LOT of my friends grew up this way and developed various patterns of unhealthy eating. I am not raising my daughter the way I was being raised but this new heroin chic era terrifies me. My daughter is only 6 yo and one of her classmates is already being bullied for being "fat".

Why are we doing this to ourselves, to our children and to each other again? It has already destroyed so many girls and women.

in the white community, men seem to think we are all supposed to weigh 125 lbs. even if we are 6ft tall.

My whole perspective on my body changed when I made a joke about being fat and my Trinidadian friend was like "What's wrong with being well fed? You've got people in your life who love you!"
It literally changed my life.

People who won't feed their female children just because they're female should be in prison. This is child abuse. Yes, we shouldn't let children become obese either, but not letting your daughter eat a steak is insane unless she has severe health problems and a doctor said so.

You think white women are afraid of gaining weight?

Ask us Asian girlies about what we think about weight gain and we'll have a panic attack 😂

As a Brazilian I was so confused growing up when I saw movies/shows and the characters complained about having a big butt. "Does this make my butt look big?" never made sense to me, I hope it makes mine look big.

I will never forget being 13 and visiting a friend; she wanted to get a hamburger for lunch. Her mom hissed at her "Danielle, you have to be in a bikini next week." I was absolutely floored.

i just feel like society doesn’t like women being comfortable. soon as we get used to an “ideal” body. it CHANGES. for some reason women need to always work hard to be considered pretty

From growing up through the 90s, I can tell you that it doesn't matter if it's "fat" or muscle. It's all considered as being "too big." I grew up hearing diet culture mantra's like "a minute on the lips is a lifetime on the hips," and "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." Any curves outside of breasts were bad. Hips, ass, thighs, etc. They all need to be kept to pre or mid pubescent size, to the point that it is a moment of pride to fit into your old high school jeans. There's no room to grow. Literally.
