Montserrat Caballé was one of the best sopranos ever. She had great control of her voice. Freddie admired her a lot and they made an entire album together called Barcelons as well. They became really good friends. When Freddie passed away she was devastated. She also passed away few years ago.

This song was used at the opening of the '92 Olympics in Barcelona. I'm told it was something to see.

Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste, and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Freddie and Montserrat became good friends very quickly, they adored each other and Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk of singing with a rock star, because she recognized The Musician in Freddie instantly.
Yes, it was playback, they simply didn't have enough time to rehearse for the live performance. Ku Club in Ibiza was huge, at its zenith, the Ibizan club had 20 bars throughout its grounds, a 10,000-person capacity.
Great reaction, thank you. Please, check out The Golden Boy at La Nit 88.

Two souls that were meant to sing together, I could listen to this every day. This may have been lip sinked but you should know that Freddie could pull this off any day of the week & Montserrat being the best Opera singer of her time would have no trouble with this at all. X

The idea for the album came about because he was interviewed on Spanish public television and asked whose voice had moved him the most. He replied that the only voice that had made him cry with emotion was hers. From there arose the idea for the album "Barcelona," and they became great friends, to the point that Montserrat Caballé was the only person to sing at Freddie Mercury's funeral.
