  Hi from Ontario Canada.  I cut my lawn high during the summer months,but in the spring and fall I lower the deck one notch. I change the watering during each season. I love my lawn and gardening. It's my therapy. Many blessings to you and Chip.

  I agree with Everything said in this video except the fertilization. I once worked for multiple golf courses. Almost all used 46-0-0 urea melted down and applied with a boom sprayer. This is a very effective way to get a very specific amount of nitrogen on the ground and even better it’s the least expensive fertilizer on the market. One of these golf courses has been practicing this technique for well over 60 years. <br><br>With that said these are tips most don’t follow and why most lawns look discolored, and full of weeds. And even though I disagree with him about fertilization. I personally like to use two applications of a natural fertilizer a year but I also use synthetics as well. I have a beautiful lush and weed free KBG lawn.

  There are some things I&apos;d add to this <br><br>1.) get a soul test before applying anything other than nitrogen. Guessing at what your soil needs can make things worse! <br><br>2.) select the right cultivars of your chosen type of grass. Qualities for dark green genetics, certain disease tolerance, drought resistance, heat tolerance, traffic tolerance, etc have come a long way. <br><br>3.) rye grass overseeing in Bermuda can kill your Bermuda if you don&apos;t kill the rye off right before the Bermuda wakes up. Rye is aleotoxic<br><br>4.) there are pigment based grass paints if you don&apos;t want to look at a brown yard over winter. They&apos;re safe for the turf, and they can actually wake the turf up a couple weeks sooner, and they can help prevent winter desiccation

  When parts of my lawn don&apos;t recover come September I just dampen them with a watering can, I do it twice about five minutes apart so it absorbs the second douse, that is if there&apos;s no rain...

  I would love to get my yard regraded to fix uneven levels and improper slopes, but it would cost at least $10,000 in my area.

  I have ‘bent’ grass that has taken over the backyard. I’m told it must be killed, taken out, and then seed the yard. When you mentioned seeding in the fall, (live in Ontario), I wondered if I just keep seeding the lawn and maybe that will get rid of the bent grass?

  30 yrs as a plant pathologist umass grad. Golf course agronomist cool season grasses northeast. &nbsp;Sharp blades. Spoon feeding. Feed your lawn spring summer fall &nbsp; Ppl say dnt feed summer. Your lawn needs constant food. &nbsp; I have inground sprinklers in my home lawn. I mix it up hand watering with auto &nbsp;mowing often ppl mess this up &nbsp;mowing injuries the waxy cuticle of leaf blade forcing the energy to heal wounds and stimulate root growth process stimulates lateral shoot growth forcing the plant grow outward in all directions and grow thicker. Correct water. Correct mowing. Correct feeding. &nbsp;I personally apply pre emergent. &nbsp;Grub etc control and when I’m on a preventative fungicide program and fall overseed. What works for me and my studies and hands on applications over 3 decades on major championship golf courses

  John, I’m up in rocklin by sacramento, seeding a new lawn here in the coming weeks with cool season grass. &nbsp;My last place in Chico had a hard time with a tall fescue sod I got (likely due to uneven watering and full southern exposure/clay soils and I am looking at either a cool season blend for sacramento area or is there a better type I am not considering? &nbsp;Is rye good? &nbsp;Not interested in warm season grass due to the seasonality (probably should) but kids need otherwise. 😂
