  I have been watching all your videos and I am learning so much as I design  my spaces and try to do everything myself. I am taking notes and slowly adding in trees, shrubs and bulbs. I’m starting things in containers as I plan out where to put things and prep the soil as I work on hardscaping. I did nothing for years bc I was so overwhelmed. I wish I found your videos sooner so I could have started sooner. Thank you!

  I don't know how many times i've seen and experienced clientele throwing all of their potting soil into the garden beds expecting it to do what it does for annuals...lol! They then wonder why nothing grows in the garden beds. I always tell them to stop and not do that, because potting soil is so airy, it will dry out the native soil. I always tell them to keep it seperate from things that are in the ground vs. what's in the pots. Annuals have to be watered daily for a reason and perennials do not, because of the soil types, the plant types, and the watering levels.

  Also, weed "barrier" is the biggest joke in landscaping...especially that gray fabric crap that landscape companies use as the standard.

  One of your best videos I've seen.  I know all of these things, and preach them to my customers, but feel like I'm talking to stone walls.  Some people just have to learn things the hard way.  It's very frustrating, but I know people seldom follow advice they ask for, so expecting them to follow unsolicited advice is an exercise in futility.

  Oh I've learned the depth of planting the hardway when my first potted pear tree not only settled and sank hard, but it turned out that its pot's substrate was way higher than the actual root crown. Luckily it was easy to save.

  Thank you for talking about the root flare. The way you first described planting deeper than the nursery pot had me screaming &quot;NOOOOOO!&quot;. <br>Root washing is the best way to plant a tree or woody shrub. <br><br>I fully agree with you on landscape fabric too. It&apos;s the biggest scam in the landscape industry IMO
