A friend of mine plays a TTRPG via online… but she’s a mom with a nursing baby and needy toddler twins. She has kids to attend to… simply put. Everyone wanted her to join, but no one else really wanted to be up when she’d be free to play since that would be much later in the evening. They decided that her character would have this power to “blink” and would randomly disappear… it wasn’t something that could be controlled. Her character would just, blink out and then blink back in, all confused and needing to be caught up. It’s been working GREAT! She never has to explain why she needs to leave for a minute or a few, they don’t have to stop playing, and it’s created some fun challenges to overcome… like when she happened to blink back… right in the middle of a fight or when she blinked out & she was holding the only torch for light and when she blinked out, the torch dropped and went out… so her buddies have to go stumble in the dark for the torch and try to figure out how to relight it since she also had the magic to ignite it. Highly amusing.

Using dnd as a hook to get me to listen to you talk about math was a very effective tactic

I appreciate how you can just say “Brennan” in context to DnD on any internet platform and everyone immediately knows who you’re talking about.

If you actually want to run weekly D&D, the harsh reality is that you NEED to just pick a time that works for most people, lock it in, and make the rest of your lives bend to that fact. More than one person in my D&D group had to change their availability at work to make our time work, but we were rewarded for it; we've been meeting regularly since the summer of 2020, and we're still going strong.

This makes me feel super blessed to have a 7-player group on year 3 of weekly, 5-hour, in-person sessions, all of whom (except the DM) started as brand new players.

My 8-person, plus the dm, group made our campaign centered around a gallion that we travel and fight with. When someone can’t show up we say that their character just got wayyyyy to drunk the night before and didn’t wake up to the cannons firing
