Spaceballs getting a 0 on the Tommy meter confused me at first, but then I remember that Spaceballs is actually good so there's no irony in the enjoyment of it.

Hi, Brazilian here, about the Brazilian star wars its actually a parody of the original, with the actors in the movie beeing really famous for their tv comedy shows. A lot of the jokes in the movie are referencing recuring jokes of their respectives shows on television, and cultural things that happened in brazil at that time, thats why at first glance a lot of the stuff doenst make sense. Anyway, sorry for the bad english, great video, love from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷

Exactly how did Tarzan influence A Princess of Mars when ERB started publishing his Mars stories before his Tarzan stories?

The "I find your lack of faith disturbing" line in the Iranian Star Wars in the year 2001 just kinda sounded way more harsh and realistic than necessary

Buck Rogers & Battlestar Galactica made up so much of my childhood and I still love them to bits.

During the Wing Commander segment at @51:33, the subtle Simpsons joke where Freddie Prinze Jr. is giving his undivided attention to all of this exposition being spouted out to him is bar none, one of the most underrated jokes in this whole video.

Flash Gordon is a true gem. Must have watched it a hundred times as a kid and imo it holds up. Everything I hear that theme it makes me happy.

I guess what it boils down to when comparing a knock-off to a successful movie that was inspired by, or nudged by Star Wars is the ability to make a movie that stands on his own, has a good story and the confidence to put a little effort into creating something on top of the borrowed bits. The Last Starfighter is a prime example of this. It has a Hero's Journey, but does not slavishly regurgitate the story of the original Star Wars, just like Star Wars itself was inspired by many other stories and movies, but it used elements of those stories to build a distinct universe and take advantage of an unbelievably talented effects time team for good measure.

“The Blackhole” is a masterpiece, easily Disney’s 2nd best “this is Disney?” movie.

John Carter was a FANTASTIC movie that failed due to lack of any promotion. Also, if they called it John Carter Warlord of Mars, the word Mars could have brought in more people (I think)

The instant Hawk The Slayer cropped up, that Spaced clip came immediately to mind. Glad I'm not the only one!

I love the polystyrene rock bumping off Jack Palance's head at the end of the 1979 "The Shape of Things to Come"
