It’s sad because in America the kids are conditioned from kindergarten to eat as quickly as possible because they only get 15-20 mins to sit down and eat

If you haven't been to Japan, you wouldn't understand ....it's true they are not fat ,but it's not the food mainly it's the walking , people walk and walk and walk, even if they eat lots of rice / ramen they walk a lot . From train station to their destination. Ive never walk that much in my life , but in Japan you will everyday ,for the rest of your life if you will live there....and it's a wonderful thing to do 🥰🥰🥰

They don't eat anything without getting fat, and they put on efforts to being slim. Believe me. I have many Japanese friends--big and small. I also have a brother in law who is Japanese. The big friends eat everything and get big. The small ones eat less and put on efforts to stay thin, like if they have big lunch then no dinner or very light dinner like tofu and soup. There is no free lunch.

Not many people maintain such a healthy diet.
But one thing is certain: Japanese people have an immense love for unsweetened tea. Japanese convenience stores and supermarkets stock about three times as many varieties of unsweetened tea as they do carbonated drinks. Before trying to emulate our diet, you should start by drinking water instead of sugary drinks like Coke.
Since our kids were little, we've basically only kept water or unsweetened tea in the fridge. Occasionally, for birthdays or Christmas, we'd buy a 2-liter bottle of coke or ginger ale. But usually, after drinking one glass that night, no one touched it again. In the end, it would go flat and we'd have to throw it out. Even now that they're adults and can buy drinks with their own money, they still mostly buy unsweetened green tea. My children say that when eating sweet treats like cake or chocolate, drinking sugary beverages alongside them causes stomach discomfort and makes them feel sick. Because they never drank sweet beverages as children, they are not accustomed to excessive sweetness.
Let's start by not getting your kids used to sugary drinks. It is said that when raised in an environment where sugar intake is restricted, people naturally tend to develop a lower tolerance for sweet foods.

In college, I lived with a Japanese person (ended up being my best friend for 15 years) and she clearly had disordered eating and body dysmorphia. She was the typical Japanese body type (slim) and tracked her weight and actively tried to lose weight. She would even get comments from her mom (who has the SAME body type…) As an overweight person, it messed with me to see this destructive behavior..,

They also WALK everywhere. We need more walkable cities in US and not be so dependent on cars.

Uh guys being fat in Japan isn't illegal because only 4% of their population is fat, and lemon water doesn't reduce bloating, I've drank it many times but it doesn't help me, and if you're Japanese you eat healthy from a young age like when you ween off milk and they feed you food, they start with veggies and some rice. Kimchi isn't japanese its a korean food, if you also want more vitamins eat 玄米 (brown rice) 豆腐 (tofu) or 塩麹 (shio koji) these really help and also eat proteins like fish! Hope this helped

BEING FAT IS NOT ILLEGAL. Metabo Law means healthcare professionals must refer overweight people to nutrition counseling and other health programs, which is entirely voluntary. If you're overweight in Japan, people will absolutely talk about you, since it's so uncommon, but regardless of how they may truly feel about it, their culture of positive round-about speech will frame it like genuine care about your health.
(Losing weight is #2 on my goals for my pipedream trip to Japan, following applying my language studies).
