  Wished i watched this video earlier when I had the problem.Most pest companies are cowboys but these guys know what they are taking about , took me a long time , lots of money (drainage surveys etc) before i realised it was the meter box ..had to rip up floor to get to the entrance point and block the access . They had us terrorised every winter .. were trying to build a nest in the couch. Clever animals too. Caught one of them nudging the toaster with his head to shake crumbs out..Thank god we finally got rid

  If you have to fill any holes in around brickwork or drains  with cement get some glass and smash it up really small shards and mix that in  it stops them knarling it back out and scratching

  Good advice these chaps we had a rat problem. Previous owner built over a manhole - took us ages to piece it together. From there they climbed into our loft via the cavity <br>All the pest control guy we got said to us was put poison down - and trap but they are too smart, need to stop them getting in

  I had a rat try and burrow under my house last year - just placed a slab of concrete there and luckily it seemed to give up. Good to know about the lintel! It’s not a new build but the hole was quite near the outside drain

  We have a sudden problem with rats since the neighbour built a close boarded fence 1/2 metre from a farm wall and the void has filled with brambles. &nbsp;Could that be a nest? &nbsp;Great video 👍

  Great video lads. I had exactly this issue and thanks to this post I knew what to look for! Moved into my place 6 months ago and heard the dreaded scurrying in the loft one night! Ripped up the garden decking and there was a network of rat holes and burrows, all leading to one deep hole that ran under a lintel where the soil pipe enters. I could get my hand up and into the cavity, so no problem for rats. Dug the area out and filled it full of postcrete to block off. Also managed to access the soil stack inside my house and at the bottom found all shredded wrappers and leaves like in this vid! Cleared it all out and there was a 3 inch gap around the soil pipe directly above the lintel hole outside! Filled the gap inside with postcrete as well. Really hoping this is the end of my rat issues! Decking replaced with patio! The fact my place backs on to a pumping station makes me think this is the how they came from above ground?   They put that type of bush with prickly thorns &nbsp;to stop burglars trying to get to the windows.

  I had this problem I just dug out the dirt under the lintel to the brickwork and bricked up the hole around the pipe 100% permanent

  Good job spotting the problem. This is very common problem. I have seen many jobs where the ground below lintels aren&apos;t filled up.
