I was using this in filters in the early 1970's in all of my box filters and HOB filters.

Ive always put the polyfil before the biological media, to keep the biological filtration clean, no need to ever rinse it because the polyfil removes the particles before reaching the biological media. Maybe im doing it wrong but ive always done it like this and ive had zero issues. My tank water is always crystal clear.

I have a small goldfish aquarium running only an HOB with floss, and a mid-size aquarium with next to no filtration since the sponge filter got so covered with algae and gunk that it only puts out a few tiny bubbles per minute. And yes, I do know how to clean it, but it's a pain to remove the aquarium cover to do this, so it's stayed as is for probably two years now. Both tanks have one air stone each, and both are crystal clear. I change the floss when it's very green from the poop of two algae-eating medium-sized Black Moors, just removing the floss and replacing it with another handful every couple weeks or so. The only other thing I do to the tanks is a top-off every few months, and a water change a little less frequently. The larger tank has a few plants; the small tank has three sides completely covered in algae thick enough to see goldfish tooth marks in. I've been working from a large polyfil bag I got on sale when Joann's closed and have barely made a dent in it. Both tanks are, as the video said, air-clear.

I run sponge filters, so they do a really good job, but when I disturb the substrate with planting or add/remove hardscape, I have a small hang on back that I load with polyfil and temporarily put the tank until the water runs clear. Takes only a couple of hours or so. Once it's clear I remove the HOB and dispose of the polyfil. I'm still working on a big bag of polyfil I bought years and years ago. I even use it in my patio pond when dust storms cloud the water. It really is amazing. I don't think it is good for canister filters, though. Polyfil is the best solution I've found for polishing water. I only use it when the need arises...

I have a small tank with hang on the back filter, originally it was just average doing it’s job, after see g a YouTube video with this filter material in it I tried it. I have an old pillow which I got some stuffing out of and tried that, it works brilliantly, just packed loosely.

Where can you get this for cheap? Amazon has it for $12.99 not $2
