“The company disappeared, but the design kept going” is such a powerful line. Paul Mauser’s real legacy wasn’t a factory—it was an idea that generations of engineers still trust. Which invention do you think has had a longer-lasting impact than people realize?

In the late 1870s, the Paul and Wilhelm Mauser brothers' factory in Oberndorf faced extreme financial peril as military orders dried up . Salvation arrived in 1881 when the newly independent Kingdom of Serbia signed a contract for 100,000 rifles .The Design: The rifle was a heavily modified version of the Mauser Model 1871, redesigned by Serbian Major Kosta "Koka" Milovanovic .The Innovations: Major Milovanovic introduced progressive rifling, an efficient 10.15mm cartridge, and a steel rail on the receiver to improve strength and accuracy .Impact: The enormous influx of funds allowed Paul Mauser to return to his factory a hero and saved his firm from bankruptcy.

P.S. Just something to add to your great video 🫣

I got the chance to look at some Holland & Holland rifles last year when I was in London. EVERY Bolt Action rifle I held that day was a Mauser K98 Action. A company that makes guns that are considered some of the highest quality in the world use this hundred year old action.

I have two Mausers, a sporterized K98k in 7x57 and a Turkish K.Kale. The K98k was made in Styer in 1943 and the Turk was made in 1944. Both are some of the smoothest bolt actions I have ever handled.

In 1914 the British designed a rifle for manufacture in the US . It was the P1914 which became the M 1917. It was a modified mauser and was in use by the Greenland Ice patrol until recently

The whole thing, mentioned multiple times, that the hunters don't know who helped design the weapons they use is 100% false. Every good hunter knows everything about his tools. I guarantee if you asked just about any hunter using a Remington or Springfield about it he'll know it harkens back to the Mauser. Other than that, great lil documentary.
