The whole Oregon / USC qb hit leads to a bigger issue. In that game of course it was a cheap dirty hit....you can see him trying to hit the QB in the head with his pads. The issue is, QB's know they are kind of protected when they slide....so I have seen some QB's fake running out of bounds to get 5 extra yards...if the defender would have hit him, it would have been a 15 yard penalty. I have seen QB slide late right before contact to draw a flag. The defender has a right to tackle the QB especially when the QB is running. I have seen a defender launch at the QB to tackle him while the QB is still up and running...only to have the QB at the last second slide and draw the contact and get the flag. Then is up to the refs at the game to decide intent. And sadly with the integrity of college football getting more untrustworthy with the fans, we can't really trust that it would be looked at unbiased. Now having said that the USC defender was wrong for sure. And it backfired because Oregon's back up QB, Dylan Riola is a better QB than Moore and Oregon's offense did better and scored more with him.
