  My kids decided to rescue a homunculus from a magic library a few weeks ago.  It's an ugly little half-melted candlewax dude that only wants to read books, but they immediately decided it was theirs.  They're probably going to put the little dude in the library of the house they have to live with the Sphinx of Wonder that they keep bringing new books.  I need to get Stibbles one of these days, because they're playing Pokemon with every creature small enough to claim.

  Interestingly, people with an unpaired X chromosome can live, but not with an unpaired Y chromosome because the X has a lot of "Being a living person" code, while the Y has "Do that but also be male" code. This means that a sperm cell could only be used to make female homunculi, but not male ones.

  There is a webtoon called 'Me and My Homunculus'  where a guy creates a homunculus and tries to parent it, where each episode is him doing a different parenting task. It is only 14 episodes and currently on hiatus but it is quite good fun and I like the art.
