  Thank you for this. I remember it very well as my cousin was one of the survivors of this disaster. He was one of the entertainers there that day. &nbsp;When the fire broke out they had no means of escape because the door between them and theswimming pool - run by a different operator - was kept locked to stop folks gate crashing. It took time to break the door down and get out through to the swimming pool to escape the flames. They were very lucky, as they managed to break it down just in the nick of time, not only saving him and his friends, but others too. I well remember the phone call we received from him that night to say he was safe, and to tell us what had happened to him. <br>The strange thing is that the group onstage at the time of the fire - and who escaped with them - later organised a benefit concert for the victims to be held in Liverpool a few weeks later. My cousin and his group agreed to play. They went to Liverpool to help raise money for the victims, and were getting ready to go on stage when, unbelievably, a fire broke out. My cousin described how uncanny it was, and so triggering, especially so close to the disaster. Fortunately this time it was swiftly brought under control.<br><br>It was the cladding that was main culprit at Summerland. Such a tragedy that the lessons weren’t learnt, and that the Grenfell tragedy had to happen so many years later.

  I can&apos;t believe the owner was not held responsible as he had the doors padlocked, which prevented people from getting out causing more deaths.

  There were so many casualties that retired doctors and nurses had to be called in. My Nannie was a retired surgical nurse that had to be called in to give aid. I remember her saying that the injuries some of the victims had were sickening. My grandad who was a police man on scene has never talked about the fire, the most he’s ever said was about it “it was a waking nightmare” and “there were so many children.” I don’t even want to imagine what he saw.

  I&apos;d heard of this tragedy before, but this is the clearest and most respectful telling of the story.<br>RIP to those who lost their lives and my thoughts are with their families and friends.<br>To those injured, who suffered from smoke inhalation, and those physically unhurt but mentally affected, I hope you recovered as much as was possible and that life has run smoothly since August 2nd 1973. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  This is an outstanding documentary. Although this disaster has been covered in depth in at least two other major documentaries in recent years, there is a lot of detail here that is new. This narrative focuses on the human experience of the fire; along with many important technical details of the construction process; that contributed to the disaster.<br><br>Given the fact that many lessons of the Summerland disaster CONTINUE to be ignored by successive British governments; this story remains both spine chilling and of critical importance to the evolution of public health and safety policy.<br><br>Sadly locked Exits CONTINUE to be an issue in public buildings around the world. Mass casualty events in crowded public buildings are increasing every year. In a few cases, such disasters have lead to the fall of national governments, but in most cases, the people responsible get away with fines.<br><br>This is an international problem that demands an international solution, imposing serious consequences for venue owners, managers and corrupt or negligent inspectors.<br><br>There is no excuse today after hundreds of disasters world wide over many decades. People who own, or run, or allow death traps to operate, should face charges of mass murder.

  I can remember it well I was on holiday at the Isle of Man with my mum and dad and one of my cousins I was 19y back then.we decided to go out and watch a show in summerland when we got in the show room my dad said he did not now like the place he noticed that there were no fire exits.a week after we got home the Sommerland disaster happened.my dad always told us that the first thing when going it to any building is always look for the fire exits.which I have passed on to me children and granddaughter.

  Seriously, how many times do we hear about exit doors being chained up?! They are exit doors for a reason!<br><br>It&apos;s stories like this that I&apos;m always looking for alternative exits when I enter a building. <br><br>Although I subscribe to a few &quot;disaster&quot; channels, I always learn something new when watching your channel. Thank you for putting in the time!

  This was a very well put together documentary. As usual, with a lot of empathy. RIP to the 50 that lost their lives. 💜💜💜<br><br>As you started the narration of this video, I could see straight away the Swiss Cheese effect was starting to line up. What did surprise me, was that even back in 1973, we were all aware of the toxicity of plastic in a fire. How did the designers/architects ever get this building past the planning stage?<br><br>There are a lot of people today that are always scoffing at Health &amp; Safety. This is one example of why we have H &amp; S laws and regulations. They are there to at least minimise the effects of when something does go wrong, but on the whole, to stop any recurrence of any accident/mishap or tragedy. Most accidents/mishaps are not caused by one problem, they are normally caused by a series of events, known as Swiss Cheese hole event. In other words, the holes in the cheese start lining up.<br>Yes some people say we rely on H &amp; S too much, even for what might seem something trivial. But it all adds up. H &amp; S laws and regulations are there for yours and other peoples protection. If you see something that’s not right, or does not seem right, report it. Not reporting it could mean the difference between life or death somewhere along the line. Maybe not today, or tomorrow. But you will have done the right thing.
