I'm a retired ER physician after only 21 years. I simply could not see myself continuing the stressful life, despite the higher pay level. The job was bad for my health. What good is money without health? Now? I'm a low-paid motorcycle rider coach and soon to be a low-paid flight instructor. Much, much happier.

Time is the most expensive currency.. For me, the true reward is having a decent income that makes you independent, but leaves you enough time to enjoy life.Simplify your needs, get free of economic and professional stress, and those silly evaluations done by the boss that are designed to make you run faster like a horse race. Enjoy a walk in the park, or by the sea. That s me. Thanks for the excellent video.

People who quietly escape the rat race often value freedom, peace, and control over their time more than status or approval. They’re not lazy , they just choose a life that feels meaningful instead of one that only looks successful.

I retired at 44, and this video really resonated with me.

People are still surprised that I walked away from a rewarding career and stepped off the rat race. It used to annoy me, but now I just take it in stride. The idea that we’re wired to stay in that cycle made a lot of sense.

I’ve never second-guessed my decision, and I don’t give weight to other people’s opinions—that’s made this journey easier.

Today, I volunteer full-time as a teacher and social worker, working with children, the elderly, and the homeless, while also reading and traveling.

Three years in, I can honestly say I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled.

When the job promotion came up for me, I told my CEO that it would ruin my life. The pay increase would have been very low, I would have had to work 5 days a week instead of the 4 days I am currently working. Would have to attend worthless meetings many times a week. And above all that there was no promotion available after that in my current job field. Luckily I am 53 now and I am looking at seeing how I can work 3 days and week with 32 hours. I want to climb mountains and snowboard down them in the winter. Excellent video.

I earn a fraction of what I could have been earning but I am so much happier. I play with my cats, watch the seasons change. Its lovely. This is life, not an existence.

My husband and I both took early retirement in our early 50s. We had been living below our means, and saving and investing, since our 20s. We live a similar lifestyle to when we were working but spend less money. We spend our time working on our house, on hobbies, exercising, spending time with family.

One of my favorite things is to wake up in the morning without an alarm, and having a slow start to our morning... Drinking tea, reading for a bit, putting in a load of laundry, emptying the dishwasher. No hurry, no commute, no stress.

When people ask us what we do, we say, "Whatever we want."
